I am most definitely an ex-Mormon (resigned) who for the past couple of years has struggled against drifting in post-Mormonhood. I was technically a New Order Mormon about a decade ago when I first created the email address as I was still an active member at the time, albeit non-believing. I still try to be fair with my presentation of information on my website, though, despite sharing the "

I've experienced being dead before. In fact, I did it for nearly 13.8-billion years and it wasn't so bad. I'd be pretty bored if I'd been alive all that time.

That’s a very good question. First off, you have to remember that the activity for older members is lower than for younger members. The general trend with age is toward inactivity, and like you said, there are certainly inactives whose deaths are recorded. Those two factors work against each other, but no assumption can be made about which is greater. So, what I did was I used the activit

I haven't posted in a while, but thought I'd share this little project I recently finished. Watch the opening and closure of church units worldwide in real time, and see that the trend over the last couple of years does not bode well for LDS inc. http://www.fullerconsideration.com/units.php

Joseph, unsure about the historical integrity of what he is about to write, calls out, "Emma, did Jerusalem have walls?" When she says "yes" with an expression as if to say "I can't believe you didn't know that," he responds, "hey, that's just what the magic stone said. Don't blame me for asking." Joseph then proceeds to write about the walls around Jeru

I was a TBM with a sincere desire to not swear, drink, have sex, etc..., so I didn't really have many problems. My mission gave me a little bit of a rebellious streak, though, so I lived in a near-perpetual state of scruff. They told me to go home and shave a couple of times when I tried to get into the gym or play an intramural game, but I had no problem going to class, getting into the testing

That's a great question! And here is your answer: Number of missionaries called each year: http://www.ldschurchnewsarchive.com/articles/59046/Church-History-Missionary-Statistics.html Number of missionaries in the field at the end of each year is in the annual statistical reports. Individual links are at the top of this page: http://www.fullerconsideration.com/membershipmethodology.php

I have actually run many of the numbers reported in General Conference over the years, including missionary statistics. This is my website: http://www.fullerconsideration.com/membershipmethodology.php Based on my calculations, which are not presented on that webpage, the average mission length in recent years, excluding the past 3 years where the data have been skewed due to the change in m

Also flawed is the golden rule. If I were to do unto others as I would have them do unto me, then I would go to Africa and give all the starving children new smart phones. My wife is an extrovert and I am an introvert, so she would think I was ignoring her all the time. The golden rule does not adequately challenge people to put themselves in others' shoes. We don't need a rule in order to fee

The website was started in July 2012. The church changed the list in late 2013. Coincidence? You decide, but they hadn't changed the list in more than two decades, and when they did they only changed half the names. Sneaky bastards. It made it hard to detect that the list had changed, but within a few months we grew suspicious, and within a year we fully caught on. We're still waiting for thei

It was leaked 3 years ago from a collaborative project started right here at RfM. Several people correctly told their loved ones what their name would be before they went, and I learned my mother's new name and two of my cousins. At least one TBM discussion board started warning people not to reveal their endowment date, because trolls were going around announcing new names. Some people left t

This is what I would do. Just decline invitations for an interview and let your temple recommend expire naturally. If you really need to keep your recommend and go to the temple from time to time, then simply say "yes, I am a full tithe payer." You get to be the one who defines what a full tithe is, and by the Biblical definition that could very well be zero. If he presses, just s

Little known fact: Lucifer's apron in the endowment ceremony used to have special emblems on it, including pillars and snakes. My new name is Dan. June 9, 2001. Sharing that was one of the most liberating experiences in my transition out of Mormonism. Don't forget to submit yours to the Temple Name Oracle if you haven't already. It was created right here on this forum three years ago today. http://www.fullerconsideration.com/templenameoracle.php

On my mission I once almost started teaching the discussions to someone who had gone through gender reassignment surgery. I was instructed that if she ever decided she wanted to be baptized, she would need permission directly from the First Presidency. "But," my mission president said, "people with these issues tend to go away on their own." He was right.

As shown in the detailed methodology, linked below, the reported LDS death rate over the years has always been about half of the death rate of the United States, which seems absurdly low, but when the absurdly high birth-rate is plugged into the equation, it becomes reasonable and lines up pretty well. The life expectancy was confirmed using two known points, so the annual deaths can be known wi

My activity rate is defined using how many children are added to the records of the church each year. In the 1950's the number of children added in the reports divided by the overall membership was very near the reported Mormon birthrate in the high 30's per thousand, which is a reasonable birthrate for Mormons at the time. Whether or not they attended church regularly is another question, but
