What a strange way to present the data though. A list from best to worst. No graphics.

I expect if I posted this on FB, some TBM will conclude that a) it would be so much worse if it wasn't for the strong presence of TSCC and b) that it proves the church is true.

According to the information at the bottom of the table...

"Numbers are age-adjusted, as states vary in number of residents at the most and least vulnerable ages for committing suicide. The totals take account of these differences. Data are from 2004, the latest year available.

City Creek will cheer people up...but also it provides more buildings to jump off...

Opened in March and they are now suing one of the food tenants for lack of rent payments. That seems to be a reflection in the relative success of a specialist salad outlet in Utah...how depressing...

Seven of the final nine states (Alaska was last) are in the Mormon Corridor:

43. Arizona: 15.6

44. Colorado: 17.1

45. Utah: 17.1

46. Idaho: 17.5

47. Wyoming: 17.6

48. Montana: 18.7 (Outside of the Corridor)

49. New Mexico: 18.8

50. Nevada: 19

If anyone has the technical ability we should overlay a map of Mormon density in America and see what we get!

So what is your response to TBMs?
When they see this and say, "WELL, it's because in other states people who are depressed self-medicate with alcohol and we don't do it here so we need prescription drugs and that's why you see the most anti-depressant use."

???

So is this highest reported instances of depression?
Reported use of prescription drugs?

Besides, wouldn't a bunch of depressed people in other states who drink alcohol on top of it be even MORE depressed?

just a thought
Re: Utah #1 most depressed state, #7 in suicide rate.
We're more depressed than West Virginia?

West Virginia is a horrible place to live. If you are depressed in West Virginia, you've probably got a good reason. Ranked last in education, last in health care, first in diabetes and obesity. The stink of corruption from the coal industry and evangelical christianity is everywhere.

And yet, we Utahns manage to beat West Virginia in numbers of depressed people. Unfucking believable.

Thanks, LDS, Inc., you've done a wonderful job in creating "Zion".

If I was in Uah I'd probably be depressed about the suicide rate....or suicidal about the rate of depression...

Yeah, NM is pretty bad.
I have never lived in a place with so many outwardly miserable people. The Rez has a very high suicide rate as well. Very sad.

Well obviously it would be. Satan has a lot of work to do on all the Saints; most of his work is already done on all the other less righteous states.

Well Utah, Idaho, and Nevada are really the Mormon stronghold states from what I've seen. Wyoming, Arizona, and Colorado also have very strong Mormon influence. So we'll consider those to be the 6 "Mormon states."

4 of them are in the top 10 most depressed states. Utah, Nevada, Idaho, (all 3 of the main Mormon stronghold states) and Wyoming.

ALL 6 are in the top 10 most suicidal states! Holy crap!!

Doesn't surprise me. I've seen so many spirits broken by Mormonism here in Utah County. It's that miserable, inhumane pursuit of perfection, and shame-based culture that drives people crazy. Reminds me of the movie, Peyton Place. It's all nice and calm, and so "perfect" white suburbia on the surface, but the deeper you go the darker secrets you find. I'm sure this is true in any community but to me what makes Utah stand out the most is how hard it tries to hide this.

Can't hide statistics like depression and suicide.
