I haven't come here in quite a while, but when I checked in tonight, I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of my posts from nearly a year ago got revived and a good fresh dialogue ensued. Anyway, I had to reply to you Chicken N. Backpacks - great response which brought much loud laughter :).

I often wonder what would happen if TBMs were able to somehow see a video of Joseph Smith in action (fill in the blank with rock/hat, coercive polygamy, etc) what they would do. I figure they probably would tear the video apart as a fake...

As others have mentioned, it does get better. I've only been out a little over a year and there still isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about TSCC to some degree or another. But it's much less now than it was very early in my "faith transistion". I hope that by this year's end, I can stop thinking about it so much and start to live a normal life. Best of luck to you.

You have it reversed in your story above. The legal marriage will happen in the temple. The second "marriage" is probably nothing more than a ceremony that they are getting dressed up for. I've seen elaborate "ring ceremonies" for some TBMs where it looks like a traditional wedding. It's only if folks get civilly married first that they have to wait a year to enter the

I was thinking the same thing. The stated purpose of the meeting was immigration... Which has me really scratching my head. Why would Obama meet with the LDS church over immigration? And the press was not allowed in the meeting.

"he has a very interesting story on Mormon Stories podcast. I encourage everyone, tbm, jack-mo, ex-mo, (and everyone in between), to listen to it." I agree. Here is the audio: http://mormonstories.org/hans-mattsson/

You may want to connect with the Mormon Stories community on Facebook. I just checked and there is one for the Denver area. Just look it up on Facebook: "Denver Region - Friends of Mormon Stories".

See definition #1 which compares deism to theism. deism noun 1. belief in the existence of a God on the evidence of reason and nature only, with rejection of supernatural revelation (distinguished from theism ). 2. belief in a God who created the world but has since remained indifferent to it. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deism

Interesting, but VERY LONG article: http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2015/03/living/friendly-atheists-next-door/ A few excerpts that stood out to me: 'The Catholic Church is run by fallible men, who sometimes act immorally and tarnish its reputation. But it is still God's one true church, Harry recalls his mother saying.' ... '"Just because we stopped walking through a church

I haven't had anyone ask me that, but it would probably bother me if they did. That said, I don't really get into church history with my friends. They know that I left because of church history, and I figure that if they want to know more, they know where to come. But otherwise, I just don't feel the need to bring it up to them. I find other things to talk about.

I agree with the advice given so far. I just wanted to tell you that the fear that you feel was deliberately put into place to keep people from leaving the church. Even after I knew that the church was false and stopped attending, I still wore my garments for several months. Part of it was due to habit but another part was the fear/stigma of removing them. I've since overcome it (mostly) by s

Welcome! Yes, I remember a little over a year ago when I finally realized that the church was "false". Everything suddenly made sense and I no longer was struggling with trying to make the impossible rational. There have been some strained/lost friendships, but I've never felt more at ease than I am now. Life is great!

To my understanding, the story is not 100% confirmed, but it was Eliza R. Snow, not Fanny.

Bingo... there is no need to feel like you're going to get punished. Actually I would have liked to be able to stay, but I found myself going stir-crazy when I had to sit through church where false/whitewashed information was constantly pushed onto unsuspecting members. It didn't feel right... so I just can't go back. That said, if going back works best for you, then have a great time!
