The smoke last night was a lot worse than it is now. 7:23 pm. The fire has burned to the top of the mountain and started down the front side but seems to be holding there. Evacuation warnings for Goleta, but the fire seems to be a bit farther north. Very light winds at the moment.

At least three missionaries from our stake were sent to Ghana and Sierra Leone. Two are back home with tropical diseases and parasites. Rather than say something negative about the situation, they say nothing. Unsmiling, introspective, quiet. Their parents talk about the brutal conditions. Heat, food, sanitary conditions. The RM's say the people were great. They're just not talking about

"Along one side of the inside of this Catholic chapel, hung canvas-like 'pictures', which were about 7ft tall. The figures painted on these hangings (I finally figured out) were Jesus' Apostles. (A funny note: I asked my naive friend how the artists knew what these men looked like. She pondered this grave question for a couple of minutes, and then said "I don't know".)" The

I started a firestorm in HP group meeting by asking rhetorically if my 12 year old autistic nephew should wait until he was able to understand the inherent responsibilities before he received the AP. Wow! I got blasted. "He'll grow into his responsibilities!" etc., etc. Then I threw gas on the fire. "Oh, so its just a social promotion". If looks could kill...

My parents smiled when I told them they couldn't attend my wedding. I wasn't bright enough to find someone to drive them 90 minutes to LA. They had to find their own way. Then they had to find out where I was. They smiled through the phony ring ceremony. Years later our son was married. They smiled and said they would stay in town and get the reception started. I was an idiot who broke their hea

In another life I was a mortician. Corky was a guest speaker in our mortuary science class a long time ago. We found his process interesting though there were a few raised eyebrows. I remember him as a curiosity more than anything else.

While they sit on the beach afraid of the water and talk about church, you go rent a paddle board or kayak and hit the water. You be the one who's having fun!

In a recent thread I called ificouldhieuntokolob a lackey. I was angry about the direction the thread was taking and ificouldhieuntokolob happened to be standing there at the time. ificouldhieuntokolob, I'm sorry I called you a lackey. It is inappropriate and uncalled for. I'm sorry.

I was hoping it would be something different. I was wrong. In the grand scheme of things I enjoy your contributions. Just getting a little weary of this one. I'll keep checking in once in a while.

Unable to stop until every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Sandra Tanner is a hypocrite, Steve Benson and his lackey ificouldhieuntokolob are determined to keep this thread alive until the rest of us give in from sheer fatigue. Give it a rest Steve! Who cares?

One of my last meaningful callings was sunday school president. If you want to call that meaningful. I sat through a few ward council gossip sessions and finally had enough. While ward council was giving one sister a particularly thorough anal exam, I got up and left. Bishop said where ya goin? I announced to the group that the sunday school could do nothing to help this sister in this sit

In our ward, kids aged 10-14 consistently make up over 50% of testimonies borne. Very few coached blubbering babies, and not that many adults. Lots of long pauses. Open Mic Sunday is just not that popular in our ward.

As a stake seventy about all we did was go on splits. One of the other guys in our seventies group became a local legend. The missionaries were notoriously late for appointmnets, keeping us waiting around for half an hour or more to go on splits. Dean got fed up with that. He would wait precisely two minutes for the missionaries. After that he went home. "Tell them I waited!" 2

Did you hear about the mohel who collected the foreskins he cut off and made them into a wallet? If you hold it your hand too long, it turns into a suitcase.

I was. We were a relatively young group stakewide, most of us in our 30's. We were still having fun with it when they shut down the local 70 groups in the 1980's. When they made us all high priests we came up with this elaborate conspiracy plan to reconvene as a shadow government within the stake. Of course I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of or my participation in such a gro
