It's my opinion that the student should still stand, regardless of federal law. It's what is "right" and "good" and "moral," in my book.

Lots of good information and interesting points. I still am of the mind, however, that students should stand up when others say the Pledge of Allegiance in a classroom. Don't say it if you don't want to. Don't put your hand over your heart. But stand up. That is my personal opinion and I realize that it is not popular within the RfM forum. I'm fine with being in disagreement with a l

Standing up is hardly an emotional response. Geesh! If you hate this country so much, GTFO.

Regardless, she still should stand as a sign of respect. She lives in this country. She should be respectful of the American flag.

The student should at least stand for the Pledge. He or she doesn't need to recite it or put the hand over the heart, but standing is common decency.

It's pretty shitty that the kid thinks it's cool that the 16-year-old told his parents to "back off." That's very disrespectful. Doesn't the LDS Church teach that people should OBEY their parents? Hypocrites!

You aren't going to like everyone's opinion, SweetAngel. When you post to forums that are frequented by a diverse group of people, some of them will say things that you don't agree with.

I guess I don't get it, Jacob. IfIcouldhietokolob said "There needs to be room in a committed, loving relationship for people to love others." That seems like an open relationship!

How can the Book of Mormon be "true" when there is not one shred of evidence that it is?

Maybe point out that Joseph Smith was a pedophile and that, frankly, you're pretty disappointed that she would continue to follow a man who married kids AND other men's wives after sending the men away on missions.

Guess I'm just not the "open relationship" type of person.

I really liked the bishop of the only LDS Church I attended. Although before I was baptized (at age 31 or 32), I asked him if there was anything evil about the LDS Church (I had SERIOUS doubts about joining). He assured me that there was not. He may have been nice, but he was severely misguided. Also, his wife was a bit of a b*tch.

Yeah, foreign missions have more glamour than stateside missions.

I usually can't make much sense of it. I don't try too hard, either. Maybe he is a product of the text generation, plus a foreigner, plus likes to be cool?

Yes, if I was this guy's wife I'd be pissed. And if I was SweetAngel's husband I'd be pissed, too.

My ex-husband's cousin was called to the Ukraine. He left early when it got dangerous and they pulled all missionaries. He said he never saw such despair as when he looked into the eyes of the Ukranian people. It was like they had absolutely no hope. I hope your relative has an optimistic, cheery disposition. He's going to need it.

She sounds like a very misguided person. Seems like you are in for a long road . . . IF she doesn't end the marriage in favor of a "worthy priesthood holder." Best of luck!

Remind her of one of the tenets of her Faith -- the Eleventh Article. You have the right to worship (or not) according to the dictates of your own conscience. She has the same right.

Hard situation! I feel bad for the kids. Mormonism is such a difficult religion. Very controlling and a complete mind screw.

I dated while separated but kept it on the down low. Once I was officially divorced I was fine with my ex eventually figuring out that I moved on. I definitely get where he is coming from. It's just a sensitive thing while the divorce is still in process.

Sometimes it's best to wait until the divorce is final to get a girlfriend or boyfriend.

What a gossiping creep! Total jerk with zero respect for you. Ugh. Be glad you are done with that ridiculous cult. The best thing you can do is live your life well. Yeah, and wear some cute clothes and make those garment-wearing assholes jealous.

Poor spelling and grammar reflects badly on people. Makes me think they are uneducated and a tad stupid.

I would get out of that relationship immediately. You can surely find someone who is a better fit for you. Why walk on egg shells all the time around someone who has been deeply indoctrinated into a cult? Do the pros really outweigh the cons with this dude? Based on your original post, I doubt it.

I'm a single mom with one daughter. I would think it would be a turnoff to date s guy with more than two kids. It's like what are you trying to do, repopulate the earth? Geeesh!

There are lots of beautiful blonde Mormon women ... Like Elizabeth Smart. That particular look is a dime a dozen in the Salt Lake valley. There's something about lots of the Mormon men that is downright goofy, though. Early balding (as in during their 20s or early 30s) and unattractive facial features.
