Joseph Smith may have taught things that are true. Other Church leaders may have also taught true things. Things don't cease being true just because a dishonest person teaches them. Smith taught things that "might be true" as opposed to things he taught that are definitely not true. His claims about the BOM are definitely not true. But his teaching that men can become gods might

Some Mormons (not all) believe gambling is wrong, and they don't want to work in casinos for that reason. They are underrepresented in the casino workforce, so it makes sense that they would be overrepresented in the police force. Mormons don't take illegal drugs as much as non mormons do, and it's hard to be hired as a policeman if you are not drug free, and/or if you have a history of drug

Maybe it is female "nature" that makes women more religious. Maybe that is just the way things are. Men commit more violent crimes than women do. This is male "nature". Will this difference between women and men ever change? Probably not. Is male nature worse than female nature in this regard? Yes, it is. Is female nature worse than male nature when it comes to religio

Okay, I really don't want a big second wave of Covid-19, but if it happens, it will be "fun" to see. It will be "fun" to see people who ignore science get burned. If we end up getting more than a million deaths from this bug in the U.S., watching it happen will be like the fascination you get when you read about the tragedies of World War II. People tend to ignore facts

People who say they have a "hunch" that Covid-19 will disappear or will quickly become a smaller problem are basing their beliefs primarily on feelings, not facts. Similarly, people who bear their testimony that they know the Church is true are basing their beliefs on primarily on feelings, not facts.

The time period following a mission is when a lot of people quit (or become inactive). Men who don't go on missions often quit in their early 20's if they don't get married. Both men and women often quit sometime in their 20's if they don't marry. People in high school and younger usually don't quit. They might be rebellious, but this is often a temporary phase, and they often settle down l

Are they trying to physically force you? If not, you are free to take a walk around the block if you practice social distancing. Will they do anything to you if you walk around the block? Are they applying "social pressure"? It sounds like they are applying some kind of intimidation. That would make me very angry, as well. They should understand that it's perfectly fine to get

Without googling their heights, here are my guesses: For Brigham Young, I've heard anywhere between 5 ft. 6 in. and 5 ft. 10. I will guess 5 ft. 8.5 in. Joseph Smith: 6 ft. 0 in. John Taylor: 5 ft. 8 in. Wilford Woodruff: 5 ft. 9 in. Lorenzo Snow: 5 ft. 8 in. Joseph F. Smith: 5 ft. 8 in. Heber Grant: 5 ft. 11 in. George Smith: 5 ft. 8 in. David McKay: 5 ft. 10

In the animal kingdom, only some males get mates. Some males get multiple females, and some get none. Nearly all females get mates. It is similar with humans. So when I would see a married woman, I would think, "This women may have rowdy kids, but you shouldn't feel too sorry for her. After all, she probably rejected multiple men before she found her "prize", and she had fun m

"The Lost 116 Pages: Reconstructing the Book of Mormon's Missing Stories" by Don Bradley Have you heard of this book? I haven't read it, but it seems pretty far out there. I couldn't find much negative comment on the the internet, but then again, who would read something like this?

How many people resign and come back? Do a fair number come back, or do almost none come back? If quite a few come back, it supports the idea that people who left because they became convinced the Church is not true were deceived, and that the reasons people give for the Church not being true are not very strong. It would suggest that Jesus would have mercy on these people and would provid

Some of the books were: Wife No. 19, written by one of Brigham Young's divorced wives. It is very informative about crazy things that went on in the early Church in Utah. Mormonism: Shadow Or Reality? Mormonism Unvailed I am still on the Church rolls, so these books did not influence my "exit" in that sense, but they did influence my unbelief and inactivity.

The problem is that tithing is so central to Mormonism that to eliminating it would make Mormonism unrecognizable. Mormonism makes a huge deal that it is better than other churches because other churches do not follow the teaching of the Bible to pay a full tithe. It says that you can't be saved by not paying tithing. It is a CORE DOCTRINE. You can say paying tithing is a matter of fa

$100 billion is only ONE SEVENTH of what the U.S. government spend in 2008 to bail out the banks! One seventh! Not even 20%! That is so tiny! $100 billion is even smaller than the wealth owned by the richest person in the world! I read once that the richest person owns about $150 billion. The Church's wealth is PENNIES compared to that. Compared to the national debt of over $20 trillio

Mormon heaven is very complicated. The Telestial Kingdom and the Terrestrial Kingdom are so much better than our life on Earth, that they could be considered "Heaven". You don't need to go to the Celestial Kingdom to have a great afterlife. Mormon commandments are so difficult to follow that, for all practical purposes, many Mormons find it impossible to obey them all, making it un

Asperger Syndrome is a permanent condition. It is not like anxiety or depression, which might be helped with medicine. If Asperger Syndrome makes you anxious or depressed, you might take pills for the anxiety or depression, but you don't need to take it just for the Asperger's. Try to internalize the fact that Asperger's by itself does not need medicine.

You can still call yourself a Mormon if the Church does not consider you to be one. Bagley identifies himself as a Mormon who doesn't believe in God. He probably feels a connection to some of its history. Mormon history tends to be more interesting if have close ties to it. You can't lose your history like you can your Church membership. I study Church history a good deal more than I wou

Pornography is too easy to find on the internet. Not only that, people are naturally curious, and they want to satisfy their curiosity about something so prevalent. It may appeal to curiosity more than to sexual titillation. Cartoons, amateur, listings of famous porn stars, just the sheer amount of choices available. It's so central to society now that not understanding it is like not rea

I'm confused about the term "Correlation". What is it? Who started it? I hear that term a lot, and I hear that it was bad for Church members, but I'm confused. I've heard it has something to do with creating the three hour block on Sundays, but I'm not sure what that means.

In theory we are all united against one enemy, the Church. However, many of us have lost sight of that common enemy. When people lose a common enemy, they tend to create enemies with each other.

Google famous people on the internet. Much of the time their kids are working in the same types of careers that their parents are (or were) working in. This happens in entertainment and politics, where many famous people are. Mormon leadership is similar. Mormon kids were taught things by their leader parents that other kids did not learn.

There are many more ways to undermine Mormonism now than there ever were, and these ways are more accessible to the public. If I were a believer, and I knew about RFM, Mormonthink, John Dehlin's Mormon Stories, the Grant Palmer Youtube videos, New Carabu ("Sir David the Bard") videos, Will Bagley's videos, Sandra Tanner's videos, etc. I would be very nervous. I would be defensive

Look at it this way: if atheism is true, it means that if you go back to Church, you won't be punished by God, because God does not exist. You will be able to meet people and you might get support and understanding from them. Whether or not you think doing this is ethical is up to you. The social aspect of Mormonism might be good for you. If God does exist, He might not care whether or

Bertrand Russell was a brilliant philosopher and mathematician. He was asked who the smartest person he had ever met was. Without hesitation, he said "Keynes". Bertrand Russell said, “Keynes’s intellect was the sharpest and clearest that I have ever known. When I argued with him, I felt that I took my life in my hands, and I seldom emerged without feeling something of a fool.â
