Time. I want the two years that I spent going door-to-door trying to talk to people who didn’t want to hear me. I want the weekends and evenings that I spent trying home teach people who didn’t want to be home taught. I want back the time I spent in bishopric meetings, ward council meetings, correlation meetings, auxiliary training meetings, meetings, meetings, and more meetings.

The Race and the Priesthood essay includes the claim “The structure and organization of the Church encourage racial integration.” And yet, at a talk at BYU, “prophet, seer, and revelator” Mark E. Petersen said “The Lord segregated the people both as to blood and place of residence. At least in the cases of the Lamanites and the Negroes we have the definite word of the Lord Himself that

Hey, we can't expect Joe to remember the date when he was busy remembering everything that was said to him (including Old Testament passages). Plus, it's hard to remember trivial details like date and time when you don't "remember" anything about the incident for 18 years or so.

Wow, the LDS church must be seriously insecure to have someone from their worldwide headquarters respond (within hours) to a letter to the editor of a local newspaper. That's messed up.

I suppose Mormons shouldn't support Marriot or countless other TBM owned businesses.

I'd like to think that I have no irrational fears when it comes to TSCC, but.....a couple of years ago, I took my garments and put them in a black plastic garbage bag. Your story reminded me that I still haven't thrown that bag away. Trash day is next Tuesday.

The WoW is one of many examples of TSCC insisting on rigid compliance of a vague and ever-changing doctrine.

"Things we never taught (anti Mormon lies)" "Things we always knew" Those two chapters will have identical text.

Spirituality = living in the moment. Religion = repenting of the past and fearing the future. I don't need a religion or a god to be spiritual--in fact, those things get in the way.

For 2017, there is a slight change to the first verse of "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam." It now reads: Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, To shine for him each day; In ev'ry way try to please him, Unless my folks are gay.

For me, it was a book that didn't even mention Mormonism. It was "Jesus Interrupted" by Bart D. Ehrman. As I have mentioned a few times before here, I didn't abandon Christianity because I left Mormonism, I left Mormonism because I gave up on Christianity. For years, I struggled with the concept of God found in all Abrahamic religions, and the notion of eternal judgment, and I finall

If things were now as they were long ago, I would resolve to write "2017" on my checks; but since I haven't written a check in forever, I suppose that I have no resolution.

What is an eternal family? This is a topic would occasionally make my head hurt back when I was a believer. If you were to ask a young Mormon child “who is your eternal family?” they would likely say something like “me, my mommy, my daddy, my brothers, and my sisters.” If you were to ask someone with young children the same question, they would likely think of their spouse and their

Mormon milk is pretty normal. Mormon meat is unsafe to consume, and contains meat byproducts and filler ingredients of questionable origin.

As I understand it, almost all biblical scholars (even orthodox, conservative ones) agree that there are no firsthand accounts of anything from Jesus' life. Everything that was eventually written down had undoubtedly been passed through many iterations of spoken accounts. I'm sure that each generation of a story drifted a bit further away from facts. Stories of his birth are likely further remove

I'm definitely insane, but that was not a serious comment ;) Praise Jesus? I'll pass. Praise Joe? No way. The only one I'm praising this time of year is the jolly old fat man.

Joseph deserves more praise than Jesus. Jesus' church fell into apostasy almost immediately after he died. JS established God's kingdom on earth that will last forever. /s

You are NOT crazy. Feelings similar to claustrophobia, or others manifestations of panic, are very common when faced with sights, sounds, smells, or other triggers that remind us of past situations when control of own life was taken away to some degree. I'm glad you felt peace once you left. I hope you feel that peace now.

I just checked my mail (to see if I got any Christmas cards from anybody I failed to send a card to) and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a copy of the Ensign addressed to me. I suppose (at least in the eyes of TSCC) I'm still a member--I haven't resigned or been exed, but I haven't attended for years, and haven't paid for a subscription to the Ensign for many years. Even when I wa
