A caution to anybody considering believing the word of Russel M. Ballard. He is part of a religious organization that has a very troubled relationship with the truth. Let me put it another way. One of the co-founders of Vice media is Gavin McInnes, the guy who founded the Proud Boys. I'll just leave that here

It's not a difficult question at all. If a book is read at a school board meeting, and the parent reading it is told to stop reading because it sounds like p0rn, then it shouldn't be in the library. Graphic violence or sexual content is not for children - in ANY context. Others make good points about passages in the Bible. But it's even simpler. Separation of church and state. That me

Slightly off-topic. I encourage anybody who has old copies of Mormon "scriptures" to hold on to those. Why? Because the Mormon church tends to "memory hole" the things they now find inconvenient. It might be useful to pull out some old gooks and show where these odd teachings are written down.

"The Frankes' strict parenting style has led some viewers to report them to authorities." Abusive and arrogant enough to film it and think they were setting an example for other parents. Gross. I don't think Mormonism has a monopoly on abusive parents. I've seen plenty of horrible parents in my travels. I don't know what the solution is but I've been tempted to @$%@ up a few bad

What is it with creepy old guys hugging young women and sniffing their hair. A colleague of mine was in a 12 step group. There was a self-proclaimed guru who went to all the meetings in her town. He would hug all the girls and put his hand around their waists. The point of this post is not to discuss the efficacy of 12 step groups. But what if someone who could have been helped but got ra

Fascinating topic. I see a lot of progress in some areas, and some serious setbacks in other areas. If you really want to see racism, go to Asia. In China, for the movie poster for Little Mermaid, the color of the actress was not only lightened, she was moved out of a prominent position. During the pandemic, a black man living in China got a video of a MacDonalds worker holding a sign

I really remember his appearance in Happy Gilmore and the fist fight with Adam Sandler. Hilarious because it was so different from his character on Price is Right. Also, toward the end on Price is Right he got sarcastic with contestants.

Because they think that canned fruit in jello whip is salad. All you have to do is visit a Mormon home and see what they eat. Carbs and sugar. I went carnivore and my body thanks me for it.

I still can't get over the fact that a lot of people on social media don't know the difference between your and you're. Your right! Or they add an extra apostrophe. She had 3 kid's. Or they think that using "I" makes things more formal. Judy and I's wedding pictures. i also can't stand run on sentence they don't make since people need to learn to right the rite w

Actually, these rules sound like something that were made up by people who could lighten up a little and burn one down every once in a while, in the Ben Harper sense of the word.

This is very common in authoritarian regimes. Look at cultures like Japan, where the Samurai had carte blanche to behead any peasant on a whim. Peasants learned how to resist in covert ways. I see the inefficiency, incompetence, foot-dragging, and backhanded compliments. Mormons live in an authoritarian world, where they must obey the whims of out of touch geriatric leaders, bishops who a

I bet I'm not the only one who went right to Rule 69 to see if it had anything to do with pre-marital fun. They really missed an opportunity there. And Rule 613 is a doozy, if you make it that far. At least they have a sense of humor.

I have to agree with what others said. Recovered memories are suspect. Has anybody seen "The Guilt Trip"? It's scary how a man can be pushed to the point where he confesses to a murder that he did not commit. Derren Brown, the host of the show, talks about how he coached actors to use what he calls "guilt-mongernig" techniques. https://youtu.be/-AzTLw0Xwok It remin

Jesus is misquoted for different political aims. Speaking of misquoting, a quick internet search (there are several websites about the Bible, just pick on) reveals that the true meaning of "taking the Lord's name in vain" was not using God or Jesus as an exclamation. The Bible was not written in English. Various translations exist that show that misquoting Jesus or misusing his teaching
