Also, I refuse to call it "the" church. It's just one of many.

The Mormon church has all the hallmarks of a cult. I won't be part of that.

I had nightmares as a child. As a kid going to Sunday school at the Mormon church, I had heard about evil spirits. And at the same time there were a lot of horror movies on late night TV. Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, and a lot of Stephen King movies. I was afraid that I had opened the door to the Devil by just watching those movies. Years later I put 2 and 2 together. My parents did

That park near the temple is nice, but the other day I was sitting there having a coffee, and looked up. The sky was dark blue. No clouds. The trees were green and the cicadas were singing. That reminds me of the couple that got pulled over by the police. The husband, in the driver's seat, was not only belligerent with the officer, but he berated his wife several times in front of the police officer. "Is he always this mean?" asked the officer. To which the wife replied, "Only when he's drunk."

Interesting. I've been focusing on boundaries recently. What a healthy thing to say. "I don't want to." That was discouraged in Mormonism. When you're presented with a calling that's going to waste your time, you're not allowed to say that you don't want to do it. In a normal world with people who respect boundaries, "I don't want to" is a perfectly acceptable resp

I sometimes look at anger as an immune response. Someone does something offensive. I don't like it. I get angry. The next time I'm near that person, I have less tolerance for nonsense. There is a point where anger outlives its utility for me. Resentment. Holding a resentment is like drinking poison expecting the poison to hurt the person I'm angry with. It's a fine line. It's up to th

In Mormonism, the end justifies the means. Faith promoting rumors, promises about treasure in heaven, and anything else that protects myths or leaders. But if you have to lie, why?

Marta was allegedly providing living arrangements to said woman and her child, the former who is involved in rehabbing the rental property. https://deadline.com/2023/08/sound-of-freedom-child-kidnapping-charge-angel-studios-response-1235455255/ Hmmmm... This was a tough one for me. Overbearing grandma, dysfunctional parents, and intrusive questions from bishops. This does not foster healthy boundaries in kids. I had to learn how to establish healthy boundaries after leaving Mormonism. Proper boundaries are a sign of emotional maturity and essential for emotional well-being. Let's start with Grandma. One set of grandparents was awesom

Brother of Jerry, I think I heard that as well. Patriarchial. When you cross Mormonism and Utah, you end with lots of funny expressions that don't really translate well into American English, which is goofy enough to start with. Just imagine growing up in Utah, then trying to have a conversation with someone from the UK or Australia.

I saw two white people (we stick out like sore thumbs) walking down the street in Tokyo yesterday. They really stuck out because they were grey haired and holding hands. PDAs (public displays of affection) are not common in Japan, especially between seniors. It took me a while to see what was going on because they were in street clothes, but had nametags on. There is an LDS temple within walk

That's sad. I've met a lot of guys that went on missions to Japan. They often go back to BYU, convinced of their language prowess, and get an MBA, then a really nice job that sends them to Tokyo for work. Some of them end up with massive apartments, decent pay, and held up in the ward as examples of how righteous living makes you successful. Self-congratulating goes a long way when your boss

Remember the stories of how the Salt Lake temple was created with a big empty space right in the middle of it? Then when elevators were invented, the big empty space was magically the perfect size to fit an elevator? What's your favorite FPR?
