That is a sign of a ward closing. There used to be 2 wards meeting in the building and they were combined into a single ward. Therefore, one ward was 'closed'.

Yes, I have heard that teaching, even in Scotland. So not limited to the Utah Crazies. The logic was that EVERYTHING must be restored before the 2nd coming, including animal sacrifices.

We used to claim we were taking a "survey" about family values when doing our door approaches and when approaching people on the street. We had a clipboard and everything. People will stop and answer a survey, they won't stop and talk otherwise. We never kept any results of course, it was just a lie to start a conversation, and the "survey" was a simple ice breaker Thi

This must be evidence the church is true! Satan is organising his forces to pick on the church in the very last days before Jesus himself will return to declare Mormons his favourites.

Just some random thoughts: This is only comparing against 1 country that is not the US. The violent crime rate in those comparison stats are higher for Mexico than the US. I also wonder about how well other crimes are reported in countries when their could be a perception there is a less effective police force and judiciary? Less reporting means less crimes show up in the stats. I al

Not every question asked has to have great importance, sometimes I'm just curious, even the interested to know something new.

Just having a conversation with my son, even the child that I sired, and we are being light minded and using loud laughter to discuss the use of Jesus, Even the Christ within Mormonism. The question we have is, when did this start being a thing? I don't ever recall it being used while I was a believer, and that ended in 2004. Maybe it was used prior to that, but it was sparing and I never no

This is the kind of story used to scare couples into not having a civil wedding for their non-member families, then having to wait a year for a temple ceremony.

I'm just offering this as a data point on how other churches and religions often handle the concept of charity and support of the needy. When I compare this against my own experience and knowledge of the Mormon church.... well there is no comparison really.... Mormonism is all talk about charity and helping the needy, meanwhile they build their investment portfolio and real estate holdings in

I know a Ward Physical Facilities rep. (I was close friends with his sons) that was killed performing routine maintenance in a church building. He had his 10 year old son (I think he was about 10 at that time) with him to help. His father died in front of his son in the attic of a church building. The church spent a lot more money trying to prove to the courts that they were NOT liable, than

I'd suspect the difficult job search is less about the university, and more about their grades, their presentation skills, and their personality. I also agree with Mr Kolob, his comments are spot on.

I have worn a Vietnamese Ao Dai. None of my in-laws seemed to be offended. However, as a Scotsman I do find myself offended when gentlemen at the typical "renaissance festivals" here in the US culturaly appropriate Scotland, and wear what amounts to a poorly made tartan skirt, and think it is a kilt. ;o)

in 2015 they bought a plot of land in central London for 11 Million for a chapel. They may have been trying to buy more land, but failed, so withdrew the funds once they couldn't spend it that year.

Just reading through the 2014 accounts. I was looking for how much the head office in Utah had to support the church in the UK. Donations from members - GBP 30 Million Donation from Parent Company (SLC) GBP - 8 Million.

A thought on this. I think your letter was great for your wife to read. It lets her know you are fighting for the marriage and love her. I think for that reason alone, it was worth writing. I just don't think your in-laws will take it as well as you are hoping, and it probably will cause even more issues. Grovelling to them isn't going to help anyone. But letting your wife know you

Having read all of the responses, I still heavily fall into the side that says do not send it. You are making yourself appear weak and vulnerable, not loving and caring. They see you as under the influence of Satan. Although a follower of Satan who can write a nice and polite, and loving sounding email. However, as others have pointed out, it makes you look weak, and gives them ammunition

Lovely words, but Mormons don't care about your lovely words. They'll ignore everything you said and continue to 'counsel' your wife behind your back and without your input. I personally wouldn't send it.

Of course they believe in belittling people. They even have scriptural justification for it. These scriptures came up all the time when a leader was happily berating a person. He wouldn't call it belittling or berating, but 'reproving with sharpness'. They all failed mightily at the showing forth an increase of love afterwards of course, but they were very good at the reproving part.
