Just curious about what percentage of large LDS families quit the church? For those with grown children and grandchildren, you can see how some of the kids turned out when grown. My family for example: I am 1 of 5 kids - our mother was very dedicated Mormon, but Father was nonmember BYU graduate (football scholarship) who grew up in inactive Utah family. 4 of 5 very dedicated & observ

Since they are reluctant (or scared) to have face-to-face discussion, they "laid down the law" in a series of very specific text messages to my cell phone. I am absolutely not allowed to go anywhere no matter what. They sound extremely serious. Extreme intimidation coming for when I decide to go for a drive (if I can find keys) or out for a walk. Why can't people just be nice?

This has nothing to do with religion, but my wife & teenage son are 100% dedicated morgbots - watched every second of conference as usual, and thought it was wonderful. Today they decided (I guess joint decision) that I am no longer allowed to go anywhere and must literally "stay-at-home" until the Prez and governor and mayor and Prez Nelson and whoever, decide to end the "s

According to Deseret News, there's 1,600 members in United Arab Emirates. There's also a **top secret** stake nearby in Saudi Arabia/Kuwait/Bahrain. Not listed on stake lists because they have a secret agreement with the government to exist, but they try to hide it from the dreaded "religious police" which exist in strict Muslim countries. According to Deseret News, the UAE govern

Here's how they could increase temple attendance for the men around the world: Inside the temple, display a life-size statue of "Eve" with the same clothing as the new logo Christus and the 1916 Miss Liberty quarter.

Not that I really care, but I'm a bit surprised that they chose the bare-breasted Christus (origin Denmark) instead of the more modest fully-clothed Second Coming Jesus. https://ldsbookstore.com/the-second-coming-5x7 This is slightly different (female instead of male), but when the U.S. issued a bare-breasted Miss Liberty on a quarter in 1916, religious folks were outraged and called it &qu

101. Iceberg
Are the General Authorities "arranging chairs" on the deck after the gigantic vessel known as TCOJCOLDS has seemingly crashed into a big frozen object in the middle of the night? TCOJCOLDS will not go out of business any time soon. But crashing into an iceberg that rips a big hole in the side of the "unsinkable" vessel is not good. There's big $$$$$ saved up in the warch

Catholics have paid out vast amounts due to many decades of sexual abuse covered up. Boy Scouts of America has a lot of assets. They also declared bankruptcy, and can look forward to spending big money on attorney fees and settlement offers for covering up past crimes. Now we know one reason the LDS war chest is over $100 billion. They have been preparing for the big decline which is starti

On Friday Dr. Deborah Birx, the U.S. coronavirus response coordinator, praised California and Washington state for their social distancing efforts, claiming that they may have already slowed the spread of the virus and should serve as models for the rest of the nation. If this virus thing starts spreading like crazy in Utah, Utahns might look back and wish they had done more and taken it more

From 1950 to 2013, annual LDS growth was always 2% to 8%. Below 2% since 2014. For 32 of those years, annual growth was 4% or higher, but the last time it was 4%+ was way back in 1991. Even without COVID-19, and even with massive numbers of missionaries through 2019, growth rate stagnant at 1% or so. Now that things are crazy, and missionaries are called home, there is no such thing as &quo

I don't know how accurate this is, but seems to be about right: LDS percent of Utah total population: 2000 75% 2020 50% That's a pretty dramatic change in just 2 decades. What will be going on 2 or 3 or 4 decades out into the future? Since there's still towns & areas with really high percent of Mormons (Orem, Provo, small towns, and so on), this means that many areas of SLC an

My sister and her husband (age 70s) follow extremely strict social distancing, but I don't know if they wear any mask. Their adult daughter does grocery shopping for them and brings the stuff over. They stay 6 feet away from the daughter at all times! They dog-sit a big dog for the daughter (so she can work) and when they go out to walk the dog (all together), the daughter continues to sta

LDS membership hit 2 million in the 60s. While it's grown a lot since then, the growth rate has really been in steady decline for about 20 years. And it's not a stretch to say that activity rate has declined a lot in the past 2 decades. What a coincidence! The internet has been widely available for 2 decades, and people can research all kinds of Mormon history, and connect with doubting Mor

Phil Zuckerman, Ph.D., of Psychology Today expressed skepticism of how the Mormon Church reports growth in membership, noting that while church membership was reported to be rising, separate analysis conducted by journalist Jana Riess showed that reports of Mormon retention, religious participation, teachings and belief have been declining since 2007.

Considering current events: Virtually no LDS missionary program anywhere in the world Birth rate is down in much of the world (no big LDS growth from lots of kids) Young people (age 30 & under) attend church at a dramatically lower rate than previous generations Unfortunately, this COVID-19 thing will bump up the death rate in many places LDS missionary program may never recover to forme

Intergalactic Revenue Commandmants section 121 (aka IRC sec 121) clearly states that a married couple who make a bunch of money selling their main house (not vacation home in Park City) can forego payment of tithing on $500,000 of gain, but MUST pay 10% on gain more than half a mil. For those on earth, and in the USA: Internal Revenue Code section 121 allows a taxpayer to exclude up to $250,0

It was decided weeks ago to have Conference in a small venue with only First Presidency, Opening Prayer, speakers and a cameraman, and maybe a technician to fix video/audio. If Utah had really strict rules about gatherings, even this very limited Conference setup might not happen. Anyway, I hope all the missionaries got out of the Philippines. The crazy president there issued "shoot to

Conspiracy Theory . . . . that's not too hard to believe Gov Herbert is probably under orders from the First Presidency to not issue any statewide orders that would eliminate or postpone General Conference. Herbert is one of only a small group of governors who won't issue statewide specific guidelines that all should follow, even though he is pressured by both Republican and Democrat mayor

It's not an advance on next year's taxes. It's literally free money. Nobody will have to pay it back. Your future tax refund won't be reduced. Your future tax bill won't be increased. Anybody who speculat4es that you'll have to later pay it back is . . . just simply . . . wrong.

re: the church is looking to duck medical costs for a couple of weeks in intensive care well . . . . they've only got about 130 billion saved up in the corporate nest egg (or is that trillion?? not sure) wouldn't want a bit of medical expenses to put a dent in the massive pile of unspent tithing from poor little old ladies around the globe who die early from disease / lack of good medical c

So obviously the missionary numbers will drop off a lot. When they get the thing rolling again, they may never recover to 2019 level of missionaries in the field. Some countries who severely restricted missionary activity might think that was good, and they could easily discourage / ban future missionaries. Although there has been a huge increase in sister missionaries with the new 19 ag
