VERY close relative worked for TSCC for many years. After years of being berated by GAs for not steering contracts to their family and friends, he left with his testimony in tatters and his opinion of these "great" men forever altered. It was an absolute grinding place to work with so called "men of God" giving differing and contradictory instructions and requirements. GBH

What's weird is that the only people I am aware of whose patriarchal blessing says they'll live 'til the second coming have all left the church making them not worthy to be there. It's only two people, but still, I thought it was odd. Mine says I'll have "children from my loin." Guess what, I'm infertile and we adopted a child. No difference to me, but the "blessing" m

Love movie threads! So many eclectic tastes by so many people! I never let my LDS-ness influence my movie watching, which may be why I could never hold intelligent discussions with church members around Oscar time as they never had seen the movies. Here's my top 10 semi-recent movies in no particular order. Most are mainstream - I don't get a chance to see all the indie movies I'd like to:

I work directly across the street from City Creek and if there is a dress code, it certainly does not include tank tops, cutoff, etc. I see people all day every day coming in and out with having that "Mormon look." Now, the fact that on most days you could roll a bowling ball down the center of the mall and not hit another person is another problem altogether. Beautiful place - w

I have a close relative who went to Hawaii and was on the islands of Molokai, Kauai, and Oahu. Swimming was strictly prohibited as was being in the Waikiki area of Oahu. There were missionaries who were sent home for going to Waikiki on P-Day.

I got so tired of allergy season - which for me is most of the year, that I went to see an allergist. She recommended weekly shots for me for several months, then once a month for a few years. I am almost done with the weekly shots. That, combined with my daily Allegra has completely eliminated my allergy symptoms, which were so sever that I missed many days of work and really struggled to wor

My opinion is different. I find most of the 34 churches, while beautiful, are over-the-top. To me, the most beautiful chapel I ever visited was the Heydon Trust Chapel in Bermuda. it was built in the early 1600s and is the smallest chapel in Bermuda. It is humble and the kind of place I believe Jesus would dwell. There is grace and beauty in humility. http://www.bermuda-attractions.

^^^^^^^^ No SH**! You will be asked when you are 45 years old why you chose not to go on a mission. You will be reminded every Sunday for the rest of your life that you didn't go - either by family, friends, or idiot ward members. It is better to go and be sent home for whatever reason than to not go in the first place, but the most important thing is to "Return with Honor."

Utah is a big state. You could live in St. George and be as far from the Wasatch Front as if you lived in Boise. I have always liked the 50 mile rule. Keep family at least 50 miles away. It is close enough, they can visit, but far enough that they'll call first.

No, you shouldn't tattle. In my wife's classroom (she is an elementary school teacher) they have the class rules on a poster. Rule #7 is MYOB. When the kids start to tattle on each other, she simply says "What is rule #7?" So I ask you - What is rule #7?

When I began dating my now wife, my future father-in-law told me that I was 80% of what he wanted for his darling daughter and if I went on a mission, I'd be 100%. BTW, I didn't go on a mission - joined the military instead. We've been married for almost 30 years, and his comment permanently hurt what could have been a great relationship. Now it is merely cordial.

In the SL Tribune, there have been many "Letters to the Editor" regarding Baptisms for the Dead and how it isn't offensive and how it isn't binding. It's a loving thing they do (not at all about the numbers, right?). They just don't understand how a person (or the person's family) could possibly be upset that their culture, religious practices, earthly existence, etc. is called in

Sounds familiar. When my mom died last summer, three of the four of us (one is still TBM) got up and spoke about our mother. Not one mention of the Plan of Salvation. Not one of us said Amen after our talks. My sister even wore a sleeveless dress. As funerals go, it was nice. The only person who mentioned anything "churchy" was the Bishop who was conducting and my younger brother

How many education centers could have been built and staffed to teach the homeless some skills? How many shelters could have been built to give those without hope some dignity and a way out of a bottomless pit? How many clinics staffed with social workers, psychiatrists, and psychologists could have been built to help the mentally ill who wander our streets?

Once again, the Morg has outdone themselves with the opulence of the Payson temple. I'm sure this is where Jesus would dwell, not among the poor, the downtrodden, the hungry, the mentally ill. How many more of these temples do we need? http://www.sltrib.com/lifestyle/faith/2425147-155/photo-gallery-see-inside-paysons

My wife had a financial "disagreement" with the Lord's campus and had no problem getting her official transcript mailed to her before it was cleared up. You'll need an official transcript mailed to your new school, anyway. I'm not aware of school out there that'll take one that the student hand-carries unless it is sealed.

We bumped (quite literally) into ETB and Sister ETB in their full temple regalia in the Celestial Room at the Jordan River Temple in 1986. He was as kind as he could be and told my new bride and her mother that they look like angels. Since it was my first time through the temple, I believe I had a bewildered expression on my face that read something like "I thought this was the Mormo

There has to be a rich Mormon there who is too inconvenienced to go across the island to the DR to go to the temple and wanted one closer so that everyone can see how purty it is. Probably a building contractor who is working on fleecing the Haitians to rebuild their infrastructure after the earthquake. That same builder will most likely get the contract to build the new edifice.

The benevolent church leaders need to learn Maslow's Hierarchy - which anyone who has taken Psychology 101 has learned. How can you possibly expect to exalt the populous when they don't have the basic necessities to survive? Do you honestly think the majority of the people give two s***s about their eternal salvation when they don't know if they'll starve to death before next Monday? The pe

Either have convictions or don't. This wishy-washy crap is just that - crap. No one asked him for his opinion - he willingly tweeted it - unsolicited. How about before you hit "SEND" you verify that it's truly what you want to say - and then deal with the consequences. No need for a half-a**, back-handed apology. You get to say what you want, but you don't get to choose the conse
