I’ve been thinking about the dress standards the LDS Church adheres to; like for men wear a suit or at least a dress shirts & tie. So doesn’t that mean if you’re NOT a white collar worker in your day job, you’re cosplaying as a businessman?

What's interesting is that I'm an introvert when it comes to dealing with people one on one; but thrive on speaking or performing in front of a crowd. I've come to realize that an introvert trying to be an extrovert is like a gay person trying to live a heterosexual lifestyle.

I never served a full time mission; but I realised recently that the best reason not to have gone is one I never considered at the time. I am an introvert. In my job, I have to interact with people nonstop. So after the workday, I have had my absolute fill of human contact. That's why I'm grateful to live alone. Even if I would have been fine with all the other rules, This one aspect

And about 30 years ago I accidentally discover the Bible Answerman broadcast & Walter Martin tapes. I thought they were devastating enough to the church at the time.

A little while ago, I had a dream where I went back to one of my old wards. 2 things were different about it. Everybody was casual & instead of an organist on the stand, there was a band; like the Evangelical megachurches. Does anyone the LDS Inc would ever experiment with this sort of thing?

I wonder if they'll ever experiment with contemporary wards; where it'll be casual & they have a band. Because it seems to me that LDS Inc might have more difficulty competing with the Evangelical megachurches than with mainline Protestant churches.

Here's what I think is so ridiculous about it. Sometimes we compare how the Mormon Church does things to how other churches do things. It seems to me that most churches would not want someone working for them in that kind of a capacity if that person needed a bunch of arbitrary rules & to be micomanaged in order to keep them focused on their ministry.

I'm an introvert in that I'm not great dealing with people one on one. On the other hand; I love being the center of attention. Had I been given a few more speaking assignments; I may have stucjk around a little longer. However; I don't think a mission would have worked out since being constantly joined at the hip with someone 24/7 would drive me crazy.

I was quite amused when the seventy who gave the invocation actually said "you" at one point in addressing God.

I just can't understand why certain past sins should be an issue since Jesus said he came to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.

One thing I find ironic is how Mormons can talk about the Catholic Church being real ritualistic; with what goes on in the temple.

Ironically, I was always dead set against having a family of my own; which was a major part of the reason I got out at age 19.

I wonder what the deal is with asking people about past specific sins such a participating in an abortion or engaging in homosexual behavior when Jesus said he came to call not the righteous; but sinners to repentace? So if baptism is supposed to wash away your sins, then why should any specific past sins be an issue?

And they don't allow swimming because it's a safety issue! It seems to me swimming is probably safer than other things missionaries are having to go through.

Ironically it said the Mormon church is the largest employer in Utah when Mormons love to talk about church work being unpaid.

Through most of my adolescence I thought missionaries were the nicest people within the church. I thought at the time that if more members could be more like the missionaries then the church would be a nicer place. That perception changed when as an Aaronic priest I did one of those mini missions & the missionary I was assigned to I thought was one of the biggest jerks I'd met. Was anyone els

I was thinking about how the reason missionaries are not allowed to watch TV, go to movies or read non church literature is because they would be distractions. And yet men who already have full time jobs are called to serve as bishop. So what's the double standard here? If you're pastoring a congregation; how is a full time secular job not a distraction?

That's right. Many people think the Immaculate Conception is synonymous with Virgin Birth.

Has anyone in their past tbm lives been critical of Catholic practices & then later realized what you were criticising had its counterpart in Mormonism? For me; when I was in high school, I was critical of Catholicism for teaching doctrines that have no Biblical basis; such as the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. I thought that any doctrine should have scriptural support. I realized la

Windway, you grew up on the Dallas East Stake? When did you grow up there? My grandfather was the stake president there through most of the 70s-early 80s.

The key is the very next verse. The literal descendant of Aaron business refers specifically to the office of bishop. And it says that since high priests in the Melchesidek Priesthood can officiate in the lesser offices; they can serve as bishop if no literal descendant can be found.

Of course my intention was not to say they're alike in every respect. My point was to compare AND contrast. I agree with all the differences pointed out. Another difference is that there's no social stigma to not wanting to become a priest.

Has anyone else thought about the similarites between being a Mormon missionary and being a Catholic priest? 1)They both have a uniform or a look that distinguishes them from regular members of their faith. 2)The both have a title they go by (Elder, Father) 3)They're both subjected to rules that don't apply to regular members of their faith (especially celibacy) There are obviously some

Does anyone else find it interesting that there are no LDS parochial schools? Catholics & Evangelicals have them. It seems there would be a market for them.

What's amazing to me is that I'd think most churches would want people to be well informed, able to handle being exposed to opposing viewpoints & NOT need to be micromanaged before being sent out as official representatives.
