I work for a public school district and every morning the students recite the Pledge of Allegiance, including "under God." No one kicks up a fuss. I've never seen a student refuse to say it, although they certainly can decline if they choose to. That is their right. So maybe you are out of touch with reality.

But it's usually atheists who insist upon the removal. So to me, it seems that it IS an atheist thing.

I know the history and I still don't mind that "under God" is in the Pledge. Nothing about it is offensive to me.

I get tired of the way atheists often insist that "God" be taken out of everything. I have an atheist friend and he doesn't like the Pledge of Allegiance because it says "under God." And sometimes atheists seem to stir up trouble just for the heck of it -- such as when they demand the Ten Commandments be removed from public property, etc.

I don't get the big deal. Money says the same thing. So what?

I'm not that outraged about the LDS Church doing baptisms for the dead. They do a lot of other stuff to living people and that is far, far worse!

I’ve been saying for years that people should not post pics of their kids online. It’s not entirely safe to do so. People don’t like to hear that.

I wouldn't be able to fake it and give up a large portion of my weekend, dressed up in Sunday best, to sing songs of praise about a horny charlatan.

Before I converted to the LDS Church, a girl missionary begged me to pray to know that the LDS Church is true. She had tears streaming from her eyes and she implored me to just PRAY! Ugh. Down the road, it was a well-meaning but ignorant elderly missionary couple who successfully got me to join.

Leaving the LDS church was easy. But I never bought into it so I didn't have much to lose. Getting a divorce was difficult for me, but only because my ex-husband and I have a daughter together. If we didn't have any children, it would have been a lot simpler. For those without kids, once the assets and liabilities are divided and spousal support is figured, you're pretty much done. If

Maybe the 20% is the people over 70 or 80 who aren't as tolerant of the younger generations doing things differently. Did they break it down by age or just politics?

Yes! This is the best way to reply to the little snot. Use his own doctrine against him. You could also try quoting the 11th Article of Faith.

Sounds like you've got a long, tough road ahead of you if you stay married. If I were you, I'd seriously consider cutting her loose and finding someone else. Why battle with your disagreements about the LDS Church for decades? Why be subjected to guilt if you have a beer or other alcohol? You can surely find a suitable life partner with whom you can maybe have a margarita with tacos or so

If the LDS Church was smart they'd condemn this kind of abuse in the strongest possible terms. I'm so glad more and more people are seeing through the ruse and recognizing this hateful organization for what it is!

You must be quite concerned for his safety. Can your son start some sort of self-defense training before he goes to the MTC? Something like Krav Maga, which is highly effective in street fighting. It could help him in the event that he's robbed or mugged. Might not be a bad idea for him to increase his physical strength, too.

I find that Meetup groups can be a good way to meet new friends, or at least new acquaintances, especially if you are in the middle of a transition -- for example, new to town, recently out of a long-term relationship, suddenly find yourself with a lot of free time, etc. I like the Utah Outdoors hiking group. You'll see that a variety of people attend. There are Meetup groups for tons of d

Exactly. It is not acceptable in our society. Doesn’t matter if Asians eat dogs or snakes eat mice. Feeding a live puppy to a turtle in front of kids is a terrible idea.

It sounds like you don't have any children together. Be thankful for that! Otherwise, it would be a difficult divorce. At this point, I'd cut ties with the jerk and his family. You can't convince brainwashed people. And you cannot control what other people think or do.

Steer clear of Mormon.org. You know it's a false church. A cult. Don't waste your time and energy by seeking out their websites.

Well, good luck. I've personally given advice to you, Adam, a couple of times regarding learning about distorted thoughts and you just blow off what I say. I don't feel like reaching out to you anymore. Perhaps others on this forum have more patience to help you through. But you have sufficiently exhausted me with your responses.

Whether you have peace or freedom is up to . . . YOU! Putting your life on hold until the LDS Church dissolves seems extreme. Have you looked into cognitive distortions? I see a lot of distorted thinking in your posts. If you trained yourself to recognize the distortions and then replace them with more rational thoughts, you'd likely be happier and more at peace. But it all starts with

That's a horribly sad story. :( In today's world, you shouldn't touch a child on the hip. Possibly the shoulder is appropriate. I had to watch a video about children who are groomed for sexual abuse before I was allowed to volunteer at my daughter's school. The video explained that one thing sexual abusers do is start with what might be perceived as a good, healthy touch, like hugging
