So, apparently Duchovny has written a book sort of based on the same episode (Hoffmann allusions). And now working on a series based on it. ???

I read this post earlier this morning, and I keep dwelling on it. Partly because I can relate to some of it. It occurs to me that a framework of sorts might help to talk about the situation, and the one below is as good as any. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: https://sketchplanations.com/maslows-hierarchy Summarized from top to bottom (but numbered in the order they need to be satisfi

Yeah, but two in a row? I did a little Googling though. Apparently Duchovny wrote and directed the first of the two. But it looks like he co-wrote it with some of the same writers who wrote the next, so Mormon ideas could have carried over. btw, Apparently Duchovny did draw inspiration from the news about Mark Hoffmann.

Well, they need to keep the one in Hawaii, in case Canadian law is ever changed to say that charitable donations can only be sent to foreign colleges that are not on the same continent.

Haha! I was thinking the same! Q: This church was alluded to an X-Files episode when a leader purchased forged documents to protect the church's reputation.

I've been slowly working my way through the X-Files lately. Night before last night I watched S07E19 ("Hollywood A.D."). A large part of the story line was that a forger named Micah Hoffman sold forged documents to a church official who planned to hide them because their content was critical of the church. There are several bomb blasts, forgery and bomb making materials/equipme

I'm no legal expert, but assuming the case was taken on contingency, she shouldn't have incurred legal bills, right? But if someone waved a million dollars in her face, it might have been hard to turn down.

Did the victim settle for 200k from the church, or from her mother? I assume the latter, and I assume that her mother isn’t as loaded as TSCC, but I could be wrong.

Yea, one million isn’t even a slap on the wrist for TSCC, but at least it’s public.

It doesn't seem to me that being TBM would be a bona fide occupational qualification reasonably necessary to the normal operation of an investment firm. It's just discrimination.

I lost my wife a few years ago, and can definitely empathize with what you're going through. Take care of yourself, but also be there for her. As Susan I/S said, stay with her as best you can. It's important for both of you. Hang in there. I hope things improve.

Just a couple thoughts after reading all the way through: IIRC from Sunday school, leaders getting the boot because of their children's "bad" behavior comes from the Bible verses about "requirements for leaders": that they must manage their household well and their children must be submissive and faithful, or words to that effect. Many fundamental churches adhere to these r

They once wrote me a letter prefaced on my "interest." I had exchanged some pleasantries with them at the door because they'd changed there opening salvos, and I didn't realize immediately that they were JWs. Then I suspected it, and asked them directly. When the said yes, I shut the door. Apparently shutting the door without slamming it is "interest." *eyeroll*

Hehehe I noticed the exact same anachronism! And when I first started reading it, I don't know why it didn't click imediately that "Bruce R" was "McConckie" and that this was so dated. I was thinking that this was someone contemporary, and trying to align Mormonism further with mainstream Christianity. But, yeah, ultimately he gets some digs in about Mormons being
