COG DIS! And I agree with Gemini about the Stepford wives. Elaine Dalton is the worst. With her morbid obsession about purity and chastity, she morphed into a Stepford wife years ago. In short, Morg leaders continue to remain staunchly out of touch with the youth.

Yeah, that’s the way to win rt’s heart, Dad! OMG, rt. Your father is fully drunk on the cult’s Kool-Aid. No wonder you never returned his messages! You are smart to stick with no contact. Sadly, in such circumstances, this is the healthy choice. Thank you for your thoughtful posts, rt. I am sure many readers have benefitted from them!

Printed at the bottom of (new) tithing slips as of 2/2012: “Though reasonable efforts will be made globally to use donations as designated, all donations become the Church's property and will be used at the Church's sole discretion to further the Church's overall mission." Translation: "We'll use your hard-earned dough any way we please, and you forfeit any right to complain abo

…did you marry anyway or break it off? Were church pressures or were family pressures a major factor in your decision? And were you ultimately glad about your decision, or not?

As you say, those in callings are considered “called by God” UNTIL or UNLESS they embarrass the church by telling the truth. Then the church wants nothing to do with them and runs away from the responsibility (of having called them in the first place) like the scaredy-cats they are! The buck NEVER stops with church leaders, the wimps! Very insightful post, dk.

The way to get TBMs thinking is not to announce our own findings, but to pose questions that may actually get THEM thinking (and possibly researching) for themselves. Why: When we announce evidence we have found, TBMs shut down and go into automatic “The Church is Twoo” mode. In contrast, if we pose questions and pose them neutrally and nonjudgmentally, we allow TBMs to explore the ideas

They are not, however, active in the church <surprise, surprise>. The article says they are “on the brink of leaving” and one describes herself as merely “culturally Mormon.” So the term/oxymoron “feminist Mormon” is not applicable to these women. As all of us here know only too well from our research (and some from personal experience,) no Mormon woman can be an outspoken

Your bishop did not promise the vague, unprovable "blessings" as leaders normally do. Anyone with basic math skills would know exactly how much extra money should come to them the next month! So when this did not happen, why didn’t members all band together and go to your bishop, demanding to know why he had issued a false promise? Probably because everyone individually assumed

Earl Erskine, a then-current bishop with a current temple recommend, came out as a (non-Mormon) Christian on one of Shawn’s shows! Link to the 9-min. segment in which Earl comes out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g00VjgTQLuo Disclaimer: If your personal religious / non-religious views would prevent you from appreciating the milestone that this was, then avoid viewing. Says something nice about your ex-wife! As to the mishies’ backing off, no doubt they have been instructed to steer clear of any Truth-telling apostates, due to the contagion!

The paradigm is changing. Youth aren’t buying the snake oil any more. So if snake oil is the only thing you have to sell… it's only a matter of time before you're going to find yourself out of business!

Go back on YOUR terms? Why would they want an apostate in their midst, endangering the faithfulness of the obedient TBM saints? Oh well, it was a nice daydream!

Mormons are told that blessings and punishments are doled out by a judgmental God as a reward for members’ obedience or disobedience to church directives. This is B.S., taught for the purpose of shaming and controlling members. It sounds like your DH actually caused some thinking to occur in sac meeting that day. Good for him!

The day came when it appeared likely that a particular bishop was to be released after a few years of faithful service. When this release did not occur as expected and hoped for (by his family,) it was heartbreaking to watch two of his children break into sobs. They had SO hoped to have their father back at last! The expectation that bishops put in 50 hours a week for bishop duties IN ADDITI

Today, another great blog by the gifted Pres Paternoster! He quotes from the March Ensign article by Dallin Oaks, “The Gospel Culture.” Here's a bit from Paternoster’s blog: “Elder Oaks is forced to ask: ‘Marriage is essential, but in Africa we must ask, what kind of marriage?’ ”Finally someone who is willing to stand up to the African people and bluntly ask them what on eart

Of course she wishes she didn’t know! Life worked just fine before she found out! She had the support of her family and a huge church community, and she believed in the “wholesome” values TSCC presumably teaches. The Morg was a “safe” place to raise children in an unsafe world. But as Craig says, “She feels lost and confused and afraid right now.” The best thing you can do (
