This is the equivalent of taking Mickey down from the top of a Disney store.

TSCC could renounce (or at least end) eternal polygamy simply by saying that Monson had received revelation that it had ended. Remember, modern revelation supersedes any revelation from the past. I listened to the podcast and she never mentions polygamy coming from God. She makes it out to be JS sole idea. She says that although JS was a prophet he was also a man and made the mistakes t

Now there's a 2016 movie (shockingly it's rated PG). I guess the one they made in 2000 wasn't holding up. I grew up in a TBM household in the 1970's and it was mandatory that we go see the play, as well as buy the album. My mother was convinced that I was one of Saturday's warriors. My brother who made it clear he was leaving TSCC when he turned 18, didn't get the same compliment, http://s

I was in the MTC in '81 and heard basically the same story. The story I heard was that one of the GA's had a dream and saw the MTC protected by angels. Also remember something about the possibility of running into heavenly beings in the hallways. I remember being skeptical but still brainwashed enough to think that it could happen.

I actually prefer "General Authorities" to "The Brethren". "The Brethren" has CULT written all over it.

I saw on the news that only Christians are allowed to work there. Isn't that religious discrimination? Or does it not apply in some cases?

Church officials have always said that "hot" drinks (coffee, tea) are bad for you due to the caffeine. They have never said anything about temperature.

Just goes to show how much pressure mishies are under to get baptisms. Like any sales job, the numbers are the only thing that matters.

In Vegas they were working the supermarket parking lots. Basically just wandering around and trying to talk to people as they came and went. I haven't seen them in a long time so I guess that didn't work.

I grew up in the same ward as Carol Lynn back in the 1970's and knew her quite well. I too have wondered why she continues to stay a member. Her children left TSCC many years ago. I can only assume that since the majority of her writings (books, plays etc) are Mormon themed and are bought by MO's, that her income might be severely impacted if she left. But that's just a guess.

Just the fact that these "Prophets" refer to the moon as a planet tells you everything you need to know. The moon is called a moon because it's a MOON not a planet. Anyway, TSCC would tell you that these crazy statements were because they were speaking as men not as prophets.

I wish I had thought of this when I was a missionary. It would be an hour and a half I didn't have to knock on doors.

that dumb cult really does have an excuse for everything. I guess that goes with the territory of being a dumb cult.

Makes you wonder how any Mormon could really be happy. Having to live under that oppression. I'm glad you found your way out and discovered your own voice. And enjoy that scotch and cigar. I enjoy a glass of Macallan 18 every so often myself.

There was a group that I believe was called "Evergreen" that existed in Utah that was basically a support group for gay Mormon men. A guy from the ward I grew up in Northern CA was excommunicated for homosexuality (he was married with 8 children) but still stayed married to his wife. I heard he and his wife had moved to Utah and he was going to this group called Evergreen. Apparently t

If the WoW is about promoting good heath, why are soft drinks (caffeinated or not) allowed at all? Sugar is the major problem with these drinks, not caffeine. Aren't the GA's inspired enough to know this? (sarcasm)

It's not secret, it's sacred. Oh by the way, there are severe penalties if you don't keep it secret - I mean sacred.

Lets not forget the Mormon ice cream addiction. I knew a lot of Mo's that would turn to Baskin Robbins before the prescription drug craze took off.

I'm pretty sure that kid was breaking the rules. The last I heard, even regular members (men) are required to wear white shirts to Sunday meetings. If that's the case, missionaries would definitely have to wear them.

Mormon men are definitely not alpha males. One of the common criticisms is that they are overly feminine in the way they speak and carry themselves.

This is my observation from my time in TSCC: Men that would be considered popular and successful in the real world were miserable as members. Men that would be considered weird in the real world were happy being members. This was due to TSCC making them feel special and important by being priesthood holders.

TSCC has been obsessed with pornography for decades. It's the misguided assumption that pornography leads to the devil taking over your mind. And once that happens, you'll leave TSCC in the dust. But as koriwhore points out, there's literally thousands of FACTS that cause people leave. And viewing porn has never been one of them.
