Guess they're not afraid of turning into a pumpkin because they're usually supposed to be in bed by 10:30pm. It used to be a big deal to be out of your apartment at night. My asshat MP thought that he was overtly generous by allowing us missionaries to stay up on New Year's eve at "ward party-social" until (drumroll please...) 11pm. That was all the excitement that we were entitled to.

Spot on. The time factor is mind boggling. So much wasted. Just think of all of the wasted time from church meetings, missions, firesides and home teaching, and throw in the forced FHE and it's a huge chunk of time.

When summer rolled around, we priests were strongly advised to "honor the faith" by requesting not to work on Sundays. That crappy advice probably prevented us from getting summer jobs. During the heavy-handed correlation years, we heard about laurels in SS that had proudly quit their retail jobs because the store (gasp) wanted them to work on Sundays. I struggled to land a job because

I learned about using Stan while reading here at RFM. No credit on my part.

I bet the church really loathes that the Pine Valley chapel is part of the National Register of Historic Places. I'm sure the church would love to raze it and build one of their McWard meetinghouses in its place. The lack of standardization of church buildings upsets the harmonic balance of correlation. Nelson probably feels that this is another victory for Stan.

As a BoM salesman that was going door-to-door peddling eternal life on this date, I was clueless of this event. My MP decided that while it was prudent for him to be aware of what happened, the rest of us peons didn't need to know.

Was there some sort of heckler or disturbance at YBU during the fireside involving Howard Hunter (the Q12)? I listened to the audio and read the text and there doesn't appear to be anything unusual, but I am aware that the church can re-dub audio at a later time. There isn't a released video of the talk so maybe that's a clue. I was alerted by Rusty, who spoke a few weeks after the incicident.

-mel You are most fortunate to have left after losing a single year. Sadly, I grew up in the church and wasted 30 years seeking friendship and approval. It was to no avail. Friends were either assigned or extremely superficial.

I don't know how many times this has been discussed, but I had this offer twice (in different wards) as a newlywed. Apparently, members seek the opportunity to offer newlyweds there "own space" or live in their home while the well-to-do members go on an extended vacation. I was told that this fabulous opportunity to house-sit was so that my wife and I would not feel crowded living in my

I got the circle reasoning at the Oakland temple. I was told that the temple prez was not available and to ask my stake president. So I tried to ask my SP. The moment I said "I have a question or two about the endowment session..." He raised his hand and looked away from my face. "No. We can not discuss that here. Please return and ask the temple presidency. The temple is too s

I think the church is tired of having to babysit very bored (and possibly immature) missionaries. They got away for years duping them over unrealistic expectations, miracles and other nonsense~ obedience of silly mission rules will lead to high baptismal numbers.

I think members need to purchase a lifesize doll of Rusty. Imagine a talking doll that tells members what to do 24-7.

Sadly, I used to worry about crap like that. Even my TBM mom, who spanked me for embarrassing her at church, didn't seem to care about shopping on Sunday. We ran into all types of church members at the supermarket after church was over. Both shopping carts would be filled up, but mom always made it a point to grab the Sanka coffee can out of her cart to tell the other sister about her dear coffee

If the church was smart, they would add a giant plunger to the exterior of every temple because the entire temple ritual only makes sense if it's floating in a bowl of shit. I really struggled with the temple nonsense as a member. I was embarrassed that I wasn't feeling one iota more spiritual than a reverent sacrament meeting. I had questions and you couldn't openly discuss it with other memb

I only remember the switch from paper ones to the the plastic ones when I was a deacon. I think it was a cost saving measure to save the church $$$. It created a Hell of a racket from kids squashing the cups. Even the older members were crushing the plastic cups. Of course, we as deacons were blamed for the extra noise. The teachers saw an opportunity to create more havoc by wedging the cups so t

Funny that you should mention that great song EB. That was one of the topic; about providing humanitarian aid to others. She claimed that "nobody needs a warehouse of goods" to provide aid. It was all about providing "spiritual help" for those in need . I think her talk would trigger a lot of anger how her view of Mormonism would cure the ills of the world.

More fights, sibling rivalry, and violence erupted from that forced Church lesson night than if we had watched the "too violent movie of the week." My TBM mom declared FHE a war to be waged to get 3 unruly kids to sit quietly and declare why church was so grand. I'm sorry, but my worst memories are watching my raging mom chase two older siblings from one end of the house to the other. C

I really believe that the church tracks certain high profile ex- members or"trouble-makers". They seem to be interested in people that have lots of followers on social media and or blogs.

Wouldn't the church need to dump their JS- prophets, temples and BoM to start nearing the other churches? I don't think they're willingly to dump their rotten heritage yet.

From a talk at BYU last year. One of the RS prez genius. A sure way to motivate the youth is do force them to choose between two very different animals (and tell them that only one is the correct choice). She quoted this from yet another church leader. Let us take the eagle, for example. This bird works as hard and as efficiently as any other animal in doing its daily work. It provides for

One of the many ways the church controls and warps the youth are their endless SS and PH lessons that use allegories to shape the mind. I won't bore you with the lesson, but we were asked who would like to be part of a winning team. All the hands went up, but mine. The priest quorum adviser was flabbergasted. The visiting member of the stake presidency took interest because I heard his shoe wh

Most missionaries are so eager just to get a human to visit their church that they downplay the notion that one has to dress to the tee. I had companions that would tell investigators "Come as you are" and then I had to be the bad guy and tell them that women wore dresses and that men wore suits and ties. It was the least that I could do after telling them about the gold plates being re

I think the Hoffman scandal started this trend and GBH was the epitome of the decline. I still can't believe the damning way he answered those TV interviews. Of course, Rusty is working overtime by going around the world and telling members to drink their Ovaltine.
