This has been difficult for many - to lose 'friendships' they thought they had at church. It hurts. I wrote in my story where an old friend of 20+ years dropped me immediately when I told him over the phone we had left Mormonism. He said that I have sin in my life and hung up before I could respond. I think almost everyone here who were active Mormons has had this experience. It hurts worse

Over the years I have recommended questioning Mormons to go to the fairmormon site. He has written there extensively. I believe he would not recommend questioning Mormons visit exmormon.org. The apologetics he and his cohorts practice is an excellent example for newbies to discover how information can be spun and manipulated. The use of words and phrases to obfuscate facts is clearly demons

Some of the banned words are due to automatic spammers, others for being crude. There is no one reason for banned words. It is being worked on now.

I retired in mid-April. I am just now finding time to work on this site. The first 6 weeks of retirement was full of music gigs. I helped a neighbor remodel a rental home and returned from a couple of weeks of vacation in California on Weds. I also remodeled my music room. Retirement has been busy. We will need another admin or two along the way. This board has an extraordinary group

This was a bit weird. I am closing the thread but not deleting it. Our site does not promote products or books for profit unless reviewed first.

It is consistent that TSCC overstates membership by a factor of 3 to 4 times or more to the real statistics. This is evident in the Brazil and other South American countries where the census numbers are 20% or so of the church official numbers. Interestingly, the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses proclaimed membership numbers closely match the census numbers. The Mormon church is

We are not doctors here, so it is strongly encouraged to see one. Mike T's is a sad situation and I hope for some good outcome. Here is another example: My wife worked with a teacher who started displaying abnormal behavior. She would slur her speech. DW thought maybe this teacher was now a heavy drinker. The teacher had dizzy spells at school. I believe most doctors would have attribute

I just returned from a 2 week vacation. One change we will make is to let threads go to 45. Some may go longer - admin decision. We have been remarkably free of trolls - only a couple per day. Please use the report button if something does not appear proper. We are working too on the banned word list. There was a good reason for many of the banned words at the time. Some banned word

When I left Mormonism more than 22 years ago, it was the lies, which includes omission of important information, that bothered me the most. I trusted these assholes. It became painfully clear that they do not care one bit about the average member. The lies are to protect the corporation and to continue the income streams of tithing, fast offerings, missionary work etc. The suicides and divor

I suspect a lack of maturity on your husband's part. Mormonism certainly cripples normal human development. It make take some time for it to happen. Your situation is difficult. Post as often as you need to.

While waiting for my wife for dinner, I thought to look up stats for the site. This particular post was read 1780 times this week. The average post well over 600 times. Just for reference. ...

This was a change awhile back. I have no clue what it means to be a witness to a name. It is just another game by the brethren to back away from previous doctrines and beliefs.

Thanks. It was fun. Being an introvert I sometimes struggle with being comfortable in a group. This was a great group. My wife and I enjoyed meeting everyone. Jerry and Cheryl are gracious hosts. I had met Mark and Donna many years ago in Dallas. At the time they appeared like the quintessential Mormon couple :-). It just feels good to be with folks who understand are not judgmental. We

Your sister being punished for honesty has been unfortunately common. Honesty is rather fluid in Mormonism. To a GA, honesty can be detrimental and is often avoided. Many members must feign belief to keep their family together. How many lie to get their temple recommend? It feels so freeing to have honest inquiry and take it to logical conclusions instead of spin. Thank you for more backg

I unfortunately got into a discussion about Mormonism with a friend last week. It was in good fun, but I still am embarrassed about having been a Mormon for so many years. After a couple of beers I told him, "The only way Mormonism makes sense is if you stop thinking rationally." He laughed and we changed the topic.

This was many years ago. This incident should of sent me immediately out the door of Mormonism to never return. I, unfortunately, hung in as a member for a couple of more years. I had recently moved to TN and my family was still up north waiting for our house to sell. I had been the ward clerk previously and received the same calling here. The first Bishopric meeting started and the Bishop

One of the best books I have read on this topic and a book I keep on the bookshelf is "The Bible Unearthed". It was written in the early 1990's and still highly relevant today. A summary from Wikipedia: "The Bible Unearthed was well received by biblical scholars and archaeologists. I believe Grammarian you were sincere in your post. I want everyone to understand that we wish that folks do not worry excessively about proper grammar. Some are typing on their phones and many are sincerely expressing themselves and in the process may have grammatical or spelling errors. Grammar is not their priority in their posts. Be kind. If you feel a correction clarifies a post, do

Wikipedia is not always 100% correct in content due to the ability of detractors to edit content. I believe, however, the Wiki article linked below is excellent based on my personal experiences. I have followed the Watchtower as a proxy for the Mormon Church as one always seems to lead the other in how they deal with information that is detrimental to their respective organizations. I often en

Actually it is one troll. I can see the IPs as an admin. Typical troll behavior is to use multiple aliases. I let it stand as his (trolls are usually male) posts were typical apologetics.

I am highly unlikely to ever join a church again. However, I respect the United Methodists for being so open and generous. I see them doing more for the community than other religious organizations as well. The Mormon church should look to them for an example of generosity. The Mormon church abuses its members with tithing, senior missions that the seniors pay to work for the church, 2 year m

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have given billions and they are atheists. Atheists are an independent lot and give individually, not through organizations.

The Ensign link worked for me. Here is an excerpt from that article from 1993: “Also, that there were two stones in silver bows—and these stones, fastened to a breastplate, constituted what is called the Urim and Thummim—deposited with the plates; and the possession and use of these stones were what constituted ‘seers’ in ancient or former times; and that God had prepared them for the

Mormon Apostle Quentin Cook is tired of anonymous online haters - Cook fails to see the irony of his statement. The LDS.org site contains numerous unsigned and undated essays in an attempt to explain difficult historical issues and doctrines. http://www.exmormon.org/Mormon-Apostle-Quentin-Cook-is-tired-of-anonymous-online-haters.pdf Mormon Church Admits the Book of Mormon is Not Historical

I have posted this before. I was sitting in the living room reading and the front door bell rings. The only people who use the front door are delivery people or those who canvas the neighborhood for a variety of reasons. Friends and neighbors always come through the side door. Anyways, I open the door and two middle aged women are standing there. It was obvious they were JWs. I don't remem
