i'm told this is no longer the case, but wasn't there a thing at one point said to date within your race and socioeconomic class (possibly in the strength of the youth thing)? also HELLO BOARD i'll post a proper update soon, perhaps. just trying to address mormon problems/ways of thinking first.

thanks for that, jpt. not hugely looking forward to phoning in (will they tell mormon family members I did?), but I want to get the job done.

It's true my privacy rights are pretty strong here, and I'm not worried about that -- what I am worried about is my parents forcing updates into the record system, and putting my partner's information down too. And that would be in the USA, and out of our hands. I thought it took 2 letters before you were for sure out? Or these things have changed?

So maybe a few of you remember me from older days on the board. I need some advising on the paperwork aspect of escaping the mormons! I haven't actually looked at it in about 6 or 7 years. Once upon a time I sent in the letter to Salt Lake that said take me off your lists, or whatever, and got back the response that said it was a local matter. I'd just spent several months dodging the local mo

just checking in with rfm here. I've been living abroad but am back in boston, but wasn't at the race. I've been an EMT volunteer in the past, right at the race's finish, so this is really surreal. but I'm fine.

It has been heartening for me to read everyone that remembers Kerry. I thought I'd offer a bit too. He and I emailed quite a bit before he moved to Boston, when I was a lowly undergraduate having a tough time in school and he was excited to embark on a new career path. When he moved to Boston, he lived only about a mile from me, and I saw him and Olivier quite often. The more communication

Ugh! I was in London yesterday! Depending on the dates, I might be down south again. When are you thinking of?

I respectfully disagree, Owl. Pretty much all the young women I knew through undergrad (at northeast liberal college) and now in law school (in england), are pretty okay with going to bed with whomever. We don't actually *need* much from men -- as a friend of mine puts it, she's pretty content with a vibrator and an electric blanket. We're smart, capable, and independent. We choose who we take ho

thanks for the replies guys. I'll respond in kind when I'm done with some of these case briefs. but I certainly appreciate all the sentiments -- it's a lot to think about.

So quick recap here: I've moved a bajillion miles away from everyone in my family, to the UK (which is awesome, btw). Well on my way to becoming a lawyer here. Left mormonism when I was 16. My parents were converts. I'm not very close with my family, except with my brother...until he went on his mission, where he currently is. Last week, I got a strange email from my mother, which said, "

Your son is about my age. if he every wants someone to complain about those crappy utahns with, feel free to contact me. dunno if you're in london just for the hospital or if you live there, but I'm in the north, though in london every month or two.

was driving from warwick back up to sheffield saturday evening. dear god the midlands can't handle snow! the m-1 was basically at standstill -- it took 5 hours to get back north! interestingly, as soon as we got to yorkshire, the roads were plowed. love the snow though, absolutely beautiful.

Can I count as british for living here (and inching closer to a permanent resident status) now? Definite republican though, I attended a student's protest for the waste of funds going to the diamond jubilee whilst tuition fees are skyrocketing. that said, I'm very much hoping my exams aren't during the celebrations going on in london in june, because it's probably the last big royal celebra

Since Beth made me aware of people asking after me, I figured I'd stop in and say hi. It is true that I left the USA and moved to England. Love it there. don't want to go back. we'll see if david cameron stops being ridiculous and loosens up immigration in a smart way and lets me stay, but that seems like not the most likely thing in the world. law school is going well, as anybody knows me

I'm around sometimes. I tried to post like 2 days ago but my internet failed at the last minute, which was sad, and I didn't feel like writing the whole thing out again. but yeah. I went and moved to england, so I guess I did sort of disappear.

Hello RFM, yours truly is traversing to Salt Lake, perhaps the only time where I won't be at the airport. I'm staying downtown. Where are the bars? And by "where are the bars," I mean, who's sweet face can I see? Seriously, would love to meet up with anybody around. Email me at bostona4@yahoo.com if you're available! I'll only be in town for saturday afternoon/night.

I don't think this has anything to do with mormonism, but the innate human goal to better one's self. but robert, you're awesome, and always helping people. remember how many hundreds of people you've helped on this board alone!

ah, rt, I still respectfully disagree. not because he's liberal enough for me (come on, surely you recall that) but because the republican field is ridiculous. he'll be re-elected, no prob. susan, we'll play nice. :-) I'd forgotten about the amsterdam bet. anyways, wine? does real wine come from the northeast? :-P

Well, I've got a summer job in Montana, hence being out here. It's funny, every time I tell people I have a brother in Idaho Falls, they're like, "They speak mormon there!" heh. rt, I do not recall! robertb -- hi! get this, I drove from boston to montana with my best friend, camping the way out. She went on to oregon. Now I've got a ride to SLC, then busing it up to colorado,

Broke my mother's heart, that's for sure. I begged to stop going to church when I was 12, finally was able to at 16. Completely resigned at 19. I'm 23 now. My father doesn't really talk to me, nor did he come to my college graduation. I think he was kinda pissed it wasn't a school he approved of. My mom and I have a weird relationship -- we talk a lot, so she feels like she knows me, but I

After a couple months of computer lameness (running vista? just upgrade to windows 7 already!), finals/graduation, and travelling across the vastness of the country, I have decided to check in. So hi everybody!!! I'm in montana right now. Does anyone live in western montana? I'll give you a hint: I am in, apparently, a hippy town. But I tell these people that once you've experienced Vermont

That's too bad that you moved away from the greatest city in america, but I'm glad to have one less hater here. There are enough graduates that are desperate to stay to replace anyone who would rather be somewhere else.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! A lot of the cultural stuff I'm not too worried about. A professor of mine said, "Travelling to England feels like a homecoming for any proper Bostonian." While I wouldn't take it quite so far, I've been to London and it did feel quite a lot like Boston. I've never been to the North, but being from about as far north as you can be in the USA, I'm no

I agree with anon and know exactly what he's talking about. But I also think threads are closed too quickly in addition to some censorship going on from time to time. Miss an old regular poster? it might be because their IP address is blocked...
