I agree that there is a difference between race and ethnicity. With being Latin/Hispanic, it can be pretty tricky at times. I'm an Afro-Latina (grandmother's from Panama, my mother's side complete embrace being Panamanian). Like a lot of Americans (since people call it a melting pot), many Latinos/Hispanics are mixed or combinated. Yes, some are of Iberian ancestry, some have African ancestry.

I've never been (came close to attending at one point), but from what I've heard, BYU is more of a place to find a life partner, moreso than getting an education.

There are parts in the Book of Mormon where they talk about the curse of dark skin (because they sinned against God). That right there is racist. Before it was "corrected" in the early 1980's the "righteous" were considered "White and delightsome" but it was changed to "pure and deightsome." I would also suggest you read 1 Nephi 13, and seriously analyze

Happy Sunday, Miss Amyjo! glad that you're having a chill and fun Sunday! I'm currently in my relaxation mode (I take time to rest during the weekends since I get up at 4:00am every morning, because I work in a town quite a ways from my home - thus making for a long commute). Pretty soon, I'll be getting ready to do to a poetry open mic at the Busboys and Poets restaurant in DC. I will say

There are some "mainstream" Mormons that practice polygamy. They're just extremely quiet about it...to (as everyone already knows) avoid excommunication.

I live in the DC area. That temple definitely stands out. You can't miss it.

I don't for sure, just more comfortable. I remember wearing garments after my endowment and how they itched. Wearing them in the Summer in 100 degree heat was killer. I felt so self conscious about sweating so much because of my wearing layers for the sake of "Mormon modesty." Interestingly enough, I kept wearing them after my shelf broke. I guess it was just second nature to just pu

I agree. There are others that remain pleasant. I use mass transit to get around, and sometimes JW's are unavoidable. There was one time when I was waiting for a connecting bus to get to work, and a woman offers me one of their "Awake!" magazines. I tell her "No thanks," and she proceeds to bear a quick testimony of Jehovah. I tell her "Thank you" and she walks away.

There are Liberal Mormon churches out there...I even looked at a couple once my shelf broke. But they still have the BoM which is a racist book, and it's still an off-shoot of a religion created by a con-man. That, and I'm agnostic. It's just a part of who I am, and it works for me.

And there are some that still openly attend Sacrament meetings, they just keep a low profile to keep from being in "danger" of being excommunicated.

"Praise to the Man." I was never comfortable with singing that hymn, even when I was a TBM. Also "We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet." The final lines in that hymn sounds so arrogant.

I'm in San Francisco on for a long weekend. I just attended the Aneurysm and AVM Awareness Walk (9 1/2 AVM survivor here!) in Crissy Field, and now I am going to enjoy the sight of the city. I'll try seeing the Lincoln Park Steps, The Lyon Street Steps, Lands End and the Mile Rock Beach.

"Leonce" did admit (in a way) the teachings given about the spirit children being white at first, but then their skin was cursed due to iniquity. Either Crazyhorse is making progress or Leonce put her/his foot in her/his mouth.

I will enjoy being garment-free, wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts and sleeveless dresses, as the humidity where I am can get icky. That aside, I hope to go to a lavender festival in Frederick come June. In August I will be going to an Aneurysm and AVM survivor retreat it Manitou Springs, Colorado. I'm excited about that as I hae never been to Colorado. I'm looking forward to seeing those m

That's quite awesome InfinityStone! I did my testing through 23andMe, and details on my background were vague. I know that there's West African, European (I at least know that I'm a combo of Irish, Scandinavian and Iberian - probably the Spanish region as my mother's side has some Spanish surnames) Native American and Southeast Asian. I wish I knew exactly where in some of these regions though

How, their "reasoning" or justifications get more and more ridiculous! We didn't want to piss our southern brethren so we kept the preisthood ban to protect Black people. No matter how much I try to make sense of it, I just can't. Troll on koriwhore...troll on... :-) Maybe I'll join you in trolling the Mormon.org chats! :-D

I was thinking a dart board in the shape of the Liahona with Joseph Smith or Brigham Young's face in the center. Or, Brigham Young's face in the center, with the then twelve's faces not to far. Maybe I'll have "Fuck Them All" somewhere on the bottom. because that's how I feel about them.

And the Mormon Jesus Christ was a blue-eyed blonde. I don't believe in Jesus now, but I wondered why Mormons made him as such. On a side note, during my time as a Mormon I was insecure about my looks because I was not a blue-eyed blond, and I was surrounded by blue-eyed blondes that were so into being blue-eyed blondes and having children that are blue-eyed blondes. It just seemed like a rever

At a meeting house in Odenton, MD where I used to attend. I believe I was a "member" for about a year or two. I believe that it was during Ward Conference as the entire stake presidency was there. So my upstairs neighbour who was "inactive" (while only her son was) came in with her pajamas and bathrobe on and said something along the lines of, "See Bishop, I came to chur

So I saw this posted in Facebook by a friend. I recognized the person (as Jane Manning James) and decided to see was Ballard had to say about her. He uses her as an example of the church's early days and says something along the lines of "No matter the 'differences' in culture and nationality, they shared a testimony of the 'restored gospel of Jesus Christ" leaving out the fact that equ
