Thanks CrispingPin, that was the quote I was thinking of also. McConkie was my spiritual "hero" in the late 70s/80s on my mission and after. He was considered a "prophet seer and revelator" just like all the of the 12 are, I guess just another false prophecy? Oh, how did I buy into this for 40 years!!!!

At what point will the 2nd Coming be considered late and help bring the demise of religion, including Mormonism? Seems to me, although no one "named a date" that the 2nd Coming was due already? 2033? 2100? 2150? At some point the collective churches will need a new story for why Christ hasn't returned.

Left in May of 82 and was very happy to have only 18 months AND not having a choice in the matter. Back then, my level of "faith" would have kept me out for 3 years if asked, even though I hated tracking with a passion.

Yes, he certainly ran the mission like you would run a business, very numbers oriented.

It encompassed almost all of MD and Northern VA, I don't remember where the southern borders were but the mission to the south of the DC mission had most of VA.

I am as inactive as you can get. But I will say this, I loved my time at BYU, great people, beautiful girls, gorgeous campus and mountains, and I received a wonderful education. I have no regrets. ETA: BYU 1981 then mission 82-84, then BYU 84-86 with degree.

The whole situation is so bizarre. I've been out for about three years now, RM, HPGL, all the normal callings. I don't see how anyone could go back once they have seen the light?

Great Cliffnotes everyone. I think his 8 year old wanting him to baptize him had as much to do with him going back as anything. Where is John's wife in all this? Was she out of the church too, and now back in or was she always in??? ETA: The reason I ask is I'm always curious on how marriages fare when people are leaving the church.

So he was out or on his way out of the church? Did some great interviews/work on Mormon Stories (The interviews with the ex-seminary teacher and wife were fantastic) and now he has gone back to the church? I'd rather not listen to the 3 hours podcast, what are the cliffnotes??? BTW: I've been out of the church for 3 years after a lifetime of membership, I can not imagine ever going back!

Funny, the church had no problem spending your $1000. You couldn't tithe on it, but could give it ALL up. These things are hilarous now that "my eyes are open".

No not actual white power Nazis. The kind who are overzealous and frequently getted looked upon as being uper-spiritual for it. The thread about the BYU girl getting the note about dressing immodestly (she wasn't) got me thinking. There was a couple in my former ward who preached against bringing of treats to any class, no matter if it was a teen SS class or a Primary class. They advoca

The boy is a future Mormon-Nazi, I know many of them. A couple in my former ward preached against bringing of treats to Primary Class, lest the children come only for the physical nourishment and not the spiritual..... I wish I was joking.

Just wondering what was the "highest calling" you obtained in the Church? Seems to me, as you get in higher callings, you see how no one really has the power of revelation, in fact you always think one of two things. Either you tell yourself you are the problem becuase of some percieved unworthiness or you feel its always the "next level" of church leadership who gets that e

28. Re: ?
I think sometimes I stayed active longer than I should of because of things like your statements above. So-called Christians telling me I wasn't Christian, please. Right now, I don't even care! Now, all it seems is like you are saying your false doctrine is better than my false doctrine.

I haven't been there for years, but my years there (81-86) were absolutely wonderful. I loved the people, the facility, the football, the intermurals, the classes and all the beautiful girls! Not to mention, I met my wonderful wife of 25 years there. I've heard some people hating on BYU, but even though I am thoroughly out of the Church, I confess I loved my time at BYU. I still pull for

Below is my OP from the first thread. A lot of good responses, so lets keep it going. When I was solid TBM, I used to wonder if the Pope knew his religion was false. I mean, he is the boss, devoted followers assume he speaks with God. Now that I am not TBM, I wonder the same thing about the Prophet (whoever that may be at a given time) and doesn't he wonder why he isn't actually me
