I was reading just this morning of a case in Madison, Nebraska where a mother who helped her teenage daughter obtain abortion pills n her third trimester was sentenced to two years in prison. The daughter, then 17, was recently released from jail after serving about half of a 90-day sentence.

I suppose it is a moot point for those of us who have a wish to be cremated. I imagine that my artificial hip will be reduced to ashes as well :)

There is a wonderful poem/tribute to the poppy tradition called In Flanders Field. I don't recall the author but a quick search brings it up. It is well worth the read, IMO. Great post, kentish :)

As a nevermo, I have no knowledge of BoM stories and only a vague knowledge of Bible stories but I always thought the story of Noah's Ark to be preposterous.

What makes this even more abhorrent. if that is even possible, is that this was his own daughter. This is reprehensible. Meaning the perpetrator as well as the handling of the confession by church co. It makes me ill.

At the time Grease was released, I was living in Venezuela due to my then-husband's job. The marquee on the theater advertised "Vaselina" for Grease :)

Sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. May happy memories bring you some comfort during this difficult time. Perhaps there is a grief support group in your area?

The article states that she has been "restored to competency". I doubt that she is any more competent than she was prior to being ordered into treatment. I believe that she was as competent then as she is reported to be now. Still, I am disappointed that her trial is not scheduled to begin until January 2023 :(

Thank you for this very interesting article, Tom. It would stand to reason, then, that the stronger one's core identity is partisan or religious, the more they are able to discount any facts contrary to their identity.

I am saddened to learn of Cabbie's passing. We emailed for a brief time and he had told me that he had hoped to make a visit to southern Utah and would plan to stop in for a visit when he did. Alas, that will never happen now. I loved his posts as he was so articulate and had a wonderful command of language. I plan to spend some time reading his old posts. Rest in Peace, Randy. You will be miss

As Tyson said, if you and she wear the same size and her old clothes are in good condition, then yes, it's nice. I noticed, first and foremost, your spelling of clothes as cloths and immediately thought of cloths as in washcloths. Sorry, but it just jumped out at me. So yes, I believe anyone, myself included, would be pleased to have a closet's worth of new clothes :)

$3.8 million for office supplies seems a bit excessive!?

When we first moved to Utah, our next door neighbors, certain they could convert us, used this as a selling point for the LDS church. They harped on the issue of "No Paid Clergy" as though that was reason enough to join their church.

The suggestion that you read "No Man Knows My History" by Fawn Brodie is excellent. It is a thorough examination of Joseph's early life and is most eye-opening :)

Thanks, LW! You succinctly and wisely summed up my feelings on Henry's post far better than I could :)
