Early mormonism was pretty insane. According to William Law the truth and reality was concealed by a lot of secrecy; many of the members having no idea of the darker sides of the cultish insanity. That's what likely made it more exciting in the beginning which added to the allure and mystique. Conmen have an air of intrigue and excitement about them. The mystique is palpable. I kn

I had a discussion about Law with an lds apologist who claimed that the Journal of Discourses showed that Law and his brother were adulterers. I read the JoD record. My response was: If they were adulters why did Law push for the Expositor? Why would I beleive the words of an lds written text past or present? Even today the lds writers prove that they re-write history from their own slan

The swinging part wasn't discussed in a way that made sense in relation to Law's letters and again to his diary. I read through the podcast commentary and noticed a comment stating that according to Law's letters, Law and his wife weren't propositioned by Smith. I read them myself and sure enough noticed law saying contradicting stuff, like he didn't know about swinging, that his wife wasn't

No, not swinging persay. JS or Emma didn't use the word swinging in this context with the Laws. Non-mormons used the words swinging - mormons didn't. This explains why the term wasn't familiar to mormons. example: My nevermo ggrandmother, born in the late 1800's, she used the word swinging to describe the mormons. When Emma asked for William Law, Law used the word 'substitute'. That's

I took the celestial marriage Institute class. Here's one example of an institute program. http://institute.lds.org/bc/content/institute/materials/english/student-manuals/religion-234-235-eternal-marriage-student-manualeng.pdf For some reason the class didn't give me a foundation and I have no idea why. My husband and I were both converts from dysfunctional families and maybe that'

My recent epiphany is similar to this. missionaries teach people milk - sour milk that isn't true. They do not teach investigators the truth. They don't even teach investigators the quasi-lies called lds.org essays. If the Holy Spirit tells you that it's true, then the Holy Spirit is a liar. Why would I listen to a Spirit that is lying? I mean, how holy is that?

I picked up on that comment too. I was a teen convert and that was one of a few reasons I joined too.

bWahahaha now THAT'S the Truth. another one, if the TSCTC the-so-called-true-church is really true why do present day essays still manage to omit actual truth and skew data so that they're lying....AGAIN. They give 1/2 truths, whole lies and a few actual whole truths, like Joseph Smith's name really was Joseph Smith. Lies past and present is the opposite of Truth.

I didn't realize he had such a good sense of humor. "When the ward's foyer quorum asked him what happened, he hedged a bit." Foyer Quorum. :) is Kirby a Foyer member?

I know people who are temple workers. They think it's a position just a little lower than that of God himself.

Like Exdrymo said, for all we know it was a couple of perv demons with too much teen sex on their minds. Here's what we do know; William Law / Dr. Wyl interview letters state that Sydney Ridgon was a Biblical Scholar and a great orator, lecturer. It took a while to drum up the idea and explains the time delay of the visions. We know that JS and his group of writers plagiarized from

I liked this comment by Diana Moses: "If we are going to talk about hearing God's commands or the recommendations of angels, can we also talk about "spiritual spam"? Not everything people "hear" is what they think they are hearing. Not to mention the issue that our perception is greatly influenced by our own preexisting "issues," especially if we have not learn

A few weeks ago missionairies came to my door. I talked about the numbers game. They said, oh noooo we're not about numbers. Not at all! I asked them if they came on their mission to baptize? They said yes. I said, yeah, that's why you're here at my door, you want to baptize. You're asked how many people you're teaching this month. How many you baptized this year. Those are number

I second this. A marrital teenage sandwich couldn't possibly be ordained by God. Please ask a lot of questions. As a teen convert I was highly impressionable and duped by smiley happy faces. Smiley faces doesn't make it true.It doesn't mean they have a clue what their talking about. It doesn't even mean their happy. Escapism and salesmanship through Smiles doesn't mean it's true.

what about the archaeologists? No archaeology proves toward a historical Jesus. Do you think all the archaeologists are mythicists or anti-Jesus conspiracists too?

I remember that. It wasn't very long ago either. Thankfully people like you are here to inform newcomers. The Mormon organization is corrupt and evil beyond anything I could ever imagine. How could they make that kind of claim is beyond me. No conscience. No morals.

But you don't mind when Bart Ehrman pulls ideas out of his butt, which is all of the time, twists them around in nonsensical ways, and then reply to anyone who points it out as saying, So what? Bart, possibly one of the biggest oxymorons in his field claiming that he's an I-don't-know agnostic while simulataneously claiming that there is a historical Jesus. HOw can he know that? By offe

actually no, Ehrman isn't an atheist. He described himself as an agnostic in his wiki bio. I’m not sure if that label is intended to lend him credibility to the skeptic questioner and form a bond of mutual understanding as criteria for his opinions, or if it is the only label he himself can come up with to describe his particular sense of confusion? The label does nothing for me an

Jesus in the talmud or mishnah? A look at christian and non-christian interpretations. A closer look…… For centuries Rabbis have walked the tightrope between Christians and upholding their own faith. To the Jewish Nation he can be neither God nor the Son of God, in the sense conveyed by belief in the Trinity. Either conception is to the Jew not only impious and blasphemous, but incomp
