I felt like a person again. I felt such a profound sense of relief. Dh was still a believer, so he had mixed feelings. He was stressed out about the way things were headed, and he felt a sense of doom. He also felt guilty for definitely preferring to see my normal undies. To his credit, he never asked me to go back and he was very supportive after I told him how it made me feel to choose m

For some reason I can't keep my own age straight. But, that being said, I do remember being taught all the standard racist crapola, along with all the "Isn't it wonderful" stuff about the change in 1978. My grandfather's idea of a good FHE less was reading a section out of Mormon Doctrine. We learned all kinds of unsavory bits that gave context to the things we were learning a

I have a love/hate relationship with my name. I really don't like it, but I identify with it too strongly to go with anything else. I get compliments on it all the time and I try really hard to love it, but a lifetime of having my name mispronounced (even on the radio and TV) is enough to make me cringe every time I think about it. I seriously wish I could have renamed myself at 18. I wou

Mormon ideas. I remember my sister and I being very upset when we were around 9 and 10 or so. We just didn't understand how it made any sense and no one could explain it any better than "We just don't understand the mind of God in this".

There are seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote: The inherent worth and dignity of every person; Justice, equity and compassion in human relations; Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; A free and responsible search for truth and meaning; The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process wi

That bit about made me puke. And the way he excused it-- what a turd, and a liar! The kennel couldn't have been airtight if poo was dribbling down the rear window, and the dog clearly wasn't having a good time. Anyone who knows anything about dogs, knows that making a mess in their crate is very distressing for them and only occurs if something is wrong. After watching Rachel Maddow's cover

tend to be equality-minded and open. It's not a creedal faith, and members are individually responsible for their own theologies. The communities are bound together by shared principles, not dogma.

They don't realize that they're not helping. It doesn't matter whether Hendricks got the target of the racism right or not. His charges of racism still apply, as with his overall concern about the church's teachings. They can quibble with the details, but at the end of the day, the racism is still there. Anyone with a lick of good sense would not be able to read those lines in the Book of Morm

It's pretty obvious from my facebook profile that I'm not into the church anymore, so I've fielded many a question from curious TBMs. For my religious views section of my profile, I put "Religion is Interesting" and left it at that. Basically, by looking at that, combined with the photos of me in bars and wearing "immodest" clothing, my political leanings, and feminist attit

I don't understand why members have trouble admitting their own homophobia. If that's not homophobic action, I don't know what is.

It sounds like it's not just racism, but also that people aren't recognizing basic cultural differences-- which should be expected and respected. If your brother isn't from NC, he's not going to act like it. People shouldn't have those kinds of expectations. That's a problem I had with my in-laws. I'm not from Utah, so I didn't act like it, and they never could understand that. They gave me

My experience living in Utah is that people had no idea how racist they were. They seemed to think that if they had a "black friend" they couldn't possibly be racist. Never mind their openly-racist opinions on Mexicans & Pacific Islanders. It was infuriating at times. Sure, there's racism in the South, and it's despicable, but at least we know it's there and we don't pretend

imposed by the sample selection process, the survey doesn't accurately reflect the opinions and beliefs of Mormons generally. So, for example, it looks like Mormons attend church more frequently than the population at large, but really that number doesn't accurately reflect Mormons in general because only a certain type of Mormon was selected to participate in the survey-- people who self-identif

"What about the 85% of elders in my Elders Quorum who’ve never attended church in my ward, and in every ward I’ve ever attended?" Admittedly it's a little ambiguously worded (it's unclear whether he's saying there's an 85% inactivity in every ward he's attended, or just the current), but it can't be construed as an overall inactivity rate. He didn't make that claim at all.

Although I'm disappointed (I love me some red wine) I think this is a great example of how science is self-correcting-- unlike Mormonism. Science methodologies are designed to root out and expose error, bias, and quackery.

by the same organization. Sometimes it's because there aren't sufficient equivalencies between courses on a departmental basis. Sometimes it's because courses from a previous university aren't part of the degree for the current university (so they just count as electives). You can check to see if BYU-I has transfer agreements with other schools and that can be helpful in planning (of course,

especially with the sections that compare Mormon beliefs with those of non-Mormons. They provide a detailed context for the Mormon side, but not the non-Mormon side. We can't really make meaningful comparisons without knowing how the samples compare. For example, the section on 'Life Goals' indicates that 81% of Mormons considered "being a good parent" to be one of the most important

On page 30 of the full report, it has a section title "Which Religions are Similar to Mormonism?" On average, 40% of US Mormons thought that Mormonism is "very or somewhat similar" to Judaism. 49% of college graduated Mormons held this belief. 59% of returned missionaries thought that Mormonism was very or somewhat similar to Judaism. One thing that is very inter
