TSCC doesn't even have heroines in the BoM or its other special scriptures. JS even used the Book of Judith for First Nephi but had to have a male hero.

Ask your DW is she believes in the Bible? The teachings there are that the "believing" spouse is not to leave unless the unbeliever chooses to leave. Moism, of course, makes apostasy a ground for divorce. TSCC is sick. Though you are not a believer in the Bible, perhaps your DW is and may be touched and understand TSCC is false.

Not all organized religion. Just heard a sermon in church today which said we ALL can tune in on our own and study and commune with Christ. Diectly. No priesthood between.

Since I grew up where we live, with few mormons - under 1% - I never became dependent on church friends. Actually, the ward has always been led by Utahns despite being on the Connecticut coast. They have never put locals in positions like bishop or SP or even counselors. Hence, I have many friends of all other churches and religions. My DW, on the other hand, did not grow up here and clearly is r

1. I did not have a problem with bible myths and science, having gone to MIT. Rather, I always accepted many of the OT stories as non-literal. Rather, the stories taught about the progression (evolution) of the relationship between God and man. 2. Of our twelve, NONE left home early and, except for one who only occasionally goes to church services (non-LDS), all are religious, and all are adults

I think of a heaven where we meet people we never met in life and see our loved ones and friends, etc. We converse and think and enjoy a glorious eternal life. It is full of color and we only play harps etc. to the extent we wish to, and there are lots of hugs and kisses and warm feelings, though we are also allowed to disagree and even have anger occasionally. Just a not depressing place. Above

There was an interesting Robin Williams flick several years back which explored the various conceptions of the after-life. Very thought-provoking.

In high priest group, we always sat in a circule. It was the only meeting on Sundays that I enjoyed. It was a discussion among equals. When they changed the room for the meetings and we sat in rows, it was the beginning of the end of my attendence. I am not a conformer. I have never tended to agree merely for the sake of agreement. I have always sought out ideas and truth and could stand al

I do not agree. Though we may be drawn to others, monogamy is best for a society. Among other things, stability is important in raising children and children learn love by watching their parents. The key is loving one's spouse regardless and without condition. The idea in moism that marriage is only to be kept if the man not only sticks to the vows with his wife, but "honors his priesthood&q

The solution: Never do it yourself but always keep forgiveness ready if it ever happens with your spouse. Do not expect it but do forgive. Do not invite it by telling your spouse it is OK in advance.

My mother said that where we live it turned red on December 7, 1941. Clearly, sometimes it is red. But the end of the world has not come.

The damage to all of us by the "non-violent" far exceeds that of the violent offenders. We should especially lock up those who have held themselves as righteous. Bank losses, for example, end up making loans available for everyone. Scams that steal for people's pensions etc etc are really hideous crimes.

Just looking at someone and hearing the way they speak - language, mannerisms, dress, etc., etc., one can make likely statements about how they think, their religion, what they have read, what kind of work they likely do..... Just a matter of being observant. I played this out once on a plane. I told the man next to me a great amount about himself. I am no psychic, merely an observer of human

All of which is why I found the mormon doctrine abhorrent. I look forward to a heaven with my spouse and family regardless of whether they are in the same church. The idea that you have multiple levels so that one is actually LIKELY to be in a different one from one's spouse is terrible. I also don't wish to be a god. I actually like the fact that each person is different. I don't like the idea t

1. Our culture has the heritage of the wife changing her name and I think it is appropriate. 2. My mother and my wife both chose to use their maiden name as their middle name after marriage. 3. Soon, seven of our eight daughters will be married and all have/will have followed suit. 4. It is also most common in our family lines (at least for 300-400 years to give a daughter the name of her mot

The story of Abraham and Isaac does not need to be literal but may be seen as an indication - see the oration of Stephen in Acts - of both faith and as a precedent for Christ being sacrificed. One should also note that a sacrifice in place of Isaac was provided so that a sacrifice was, indeed, made on the altar made by Abraham. Also note that the one being sacrificed was required to carry the woo

Before you begin using alcohol, check you family history. Not for dunking the deceased. Rather, the problems with alcohol are a matter of your genes. It relates to how your body handles sugars. If you have a family history of depression, diabetes, and alcoholism, don't try the booze. Not worth it. Don't figure it won't get you. It is for those reasons and that my DW and I both decided not to drin

Pretty standard church policy. Perhaps the garden is not required in some city wards and branches. The rest is standard fare.

My TR interviews - except when I answered other than the desired yeses and nos - lasted about three minutes. If they had kept to the annual interviews I would certainly have been out earlier. I finally told the bishop what I believed and he yanked the TR on the spot. Didn't faze me at all.

At one time I thought that JS at least believed he was a prophet. However, if one even reads "The Lectures on Faith" it is apparent that he knew quite well he was not. He was laughing at everyone. He knew exactly what he was doing and is NOT in heaven planning for us. If he is anywhere, he is burning in hell.

Actually, the tax part is true - it provided no goods or services. The intangible benefits are spurious. Just hold your nose and take the deduction and hope that someday all such deductions will no longer exist as part of a full tax reform package.

For some odd reason, I always enjoyed knocking on doors - but not as a missionary but as a candidate for office. It is exhilarating to meet new people and exchange ideas. I actually even went a couple of times with the missionaries and enjoyed it. Perhaps this is because I would begin discussing the people we met and what they thought. One time we met a Greek Orthodox woman and I learned that the

1. I am part of the oldest living generation in our family. My father, if living would be 110 and my mother would be 108. I only know that I have told my children but not all the grand-children as our children are mostly TBM and would resent it. 2. Only after considering the effect on the happiness of our children did I decide that it was essential to let them know so that they have a full oppo
