Becca, do you have any specific "Three Nephites" stories that you have heard? I would love to hear one.

What is the craziest story you ever heard a mormon tell? I can't remember all the details, but I had a good friend tell me a story about how her dad, who worked in construction, had some sort of close call with an accident at work. She claims that if he hadn't been wearing his garments he would have lost both his legs...

Whenever I meet new people and they ask where I went to school I am always embarrassed and super annoyed that I have to say BYU. I don't like them thinking that I am a mormon when I am not and I don't like having to bring up a past that I am trying to leave behind.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, but I guess I was really just asking if "Agnostic Christian" is a thing. I was having a conversation with a good friend that was asking about my beliefs. I told them I lean toward being an Agnostic Christian. I am not really worried about labels, but that was the best way I could come up with to describe what I believe.

Welcome to the Board! I too am waiting until I move away to resign and my mother is also pretty insistent I keep my name on the records and thinks I will be back someday. It will be a relief when I can finally move away sometime this year. I wish I could give you advice on how to discuss with your SIL but in my experience trying to discuss with a mormon is like trying to discuss with a brick wall

I am still trying to figure out my own beliefs which currently are: I want, and I guess choose to believe in God/Christ and hope they exist but am not sure. How can anyone be totally sure? I try to live a moral life and want to do good. Would I be considered and "Agnostic Christian" or "Christian Agnostic?" (I don't know which would be the correct way to write that)

I am glad I never went through the temple. I would have hated having to wear garments. I know my dad doesn't wear them anymore, but my mom does even though she claims she doesn't believe in them, but wears them because "They are extremely comfortable" I don't believe that for a second. I think she is scared to take them off permanently.

What is some of the most annoying Mormon lingo/phrases you heard as a member? For example: "slippery slopes" I am so sick of hearing this phrase. It seems I have heard it a lot lately not necessarily directed at me though. Edit: I would like to add in "burning of the bosom" and "warm fuzzies"

I agree! I would not traveling 500 miles to attend church with my grandparents. I am going there to enjoy their company, but my grandpa is even worse than my mom. He is 91 years old and would probably keel over at the mere thought of missing church just because family was visiting.

Agreed! It just shows how much control mormonism really has over its members. It's rather sad and frustrating to see.

I should have mentioned that it is my mother and I that would be going to visit. I am an adult, but to avoid getting into another hurtful fight with my mom where she treats me like I am the most unforgiving and inconsiderate thing she has ever met I am bowing out and staying behind.

I could tell you the exact day I decided I would never again go back to TSCC. I had recently dropped out of BYU after asking lots of question about the church and discovering how much they had lied. For about 2 months I was in a depressed state having had my word collapse in on me, but not knowing where else to go except back to mormonism hoping somehow if I kept going things would change. It

I have a chance to go see my Grandparents next weekend, but there are conditions. My mothers says if I go I have to attend TSCC on Sunday and pretend I am still a mormon. I am so tired of all this deceit and denial. So, I am not going...stupid mormon church >:(

Do you think TSCC includes the Excommunicated members in their membership number reports like they do those who resigned or do you think the excommunicated ones are completely removed from their statistics?

Thanks for this post. It is good to know I am not the only one that has hurtful family members. This past week has been especially tough for me. My mother says hurtful things to me on a regular basis. It is hard to live with. I too have often wished I had never heard of TSCC and wondered what my life would have been like. Thanks for your support good luck to you on your journey.

I had a cousin that did something similar for her "reception" she had a big pool party/bbq. It was a big hit and way better than a tradition reception.

Thanks for all your stories. I have enjoyed reading them. Dogeatdog I really like the idea of a somewhat planned destination elopement. Then, as madalice, said having an informal reception/bbq later.

Did anyone on here elope when they got married? and Do you regret you did? I have often thought if I were to get married I would much rather elope then go through all the trouble of a wedding. I am not much of a wedding person to me it is not worth the cost...

My parents fit the whole opposites attract idea...My mom is aggressive and always has to have her way. For anyone that knows the book The Color Code, my mom would be a red. My dad is the total opposite. He sort of has no backbone and lets others make up his mind for him. He would be a White in the color code. I hate to say this but I don't consider my parents to have a happy marriage. They have

Has anyone here used email to resign? If so what was your experience and how long did it take for them to respond? Edit: Do know if they still process it through your local bishop/stake president or do the record offices just deal with it now? Also, I currently am living back at home. Do you think that they would contact my parents and tell them I resigned?

Perhaps all I really need is a friend to talk to. I have pretty much been a loner ever since I left Mormonism 2 year ago. I have tried talking to my exmo parents, but they left for different reasons than me and they don't relate. It always ends in an argument. I just want someone to listen and be understanding. Someone that will help me sort through what I am feeling without nagging or judging me

Has therapy been a big help to anyone since leaving Mormonism? I have been considering going, but need some reassurance. It seems like whenever I bring up the idea it gets shot down because there is a lot of distrust toward therapist/psychologists.
