It was the Easter bunny....which helps explain Mormons' lackadaisical approach to this particular time of year and why you're more likely to hear Joseph Smith & tithing talks on Easter Sunday than anything else. The magic has literally been digested and excreted by an egotistical conman.

I never found out what the person (female and worked as a nurse) had done many years previously but they had been a member of the IRA. MP interviewed them for baptism, came out looking like a ghost and then referred it to SLC. Message received and conveyed back via the MP (and I'll never forget this) - was word for word "the church lawyers are very uncomfortable with this and so the FP have

Mine is a rather sad 'near conversion' story. Young Catholic man was pressurised by us to get baptised even though it was causing a lot of disharmony with his mother who he still lived with and he was also struggling with feelings of inadequacy as he was finding it so difficult to give up cigarettes. Anyway the big day came. The font was filled, members were waiting in the chapel and he was ge

"Some people you thought were your friends will betray you!" Oh the irony. That's exactly how many of us felt about TSCC when we realised they'd been promulgating lies.

I seem to recall they set the 'double active membership' goal around 2010 (maybe even earlier) with a view to realising this within 10 years. I wonder how that's working out currently? Shame there wasn't a graph plotting the growth curve in recent years. They'll be very fortunate to not suffer an overall loss in membership over that period. Perhaps they already know that anyway since the plan hig

Are they not shooting themselves in the foot by declaring this as policy and thus potentially liable to change? Surely something so critical in their eyes as blanket decisions on refusing baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost would have to come from revelation rather than just their legal advisors? What are the logical implications if they admit that this policy isn't definitively the mind &

My 16 year old has watched a few of the recent Scientology TV shows. Let's just say that his response to the new policy drew a pretty strong alignment between both cults.

What an unholy (and much deserved) mess TSCC currently finds itself in with regards to those they term ‘SSA’ - Gender is an eternal characteristic…. but past teachings have flipped 180 degrees so that TSCC now says people are in fact born gay…. yet the plan of salvation doesn’t appear to hold any place for gay members - Same sex attraction now isn't a sin but acting upon it is. Gay

TBM sister-in-law (stake leader) was horrified with the new policy. Most importantly she doesn't believe this has come from God. That's a really critical realisation that I suspect many other TBMs will be wrestling with.

I've not been active for 3 years and I've never previously been that bothered about resigning.....but this latest stance from TSCC makes me feel that I no longer want any association whatsoever with this hate organisation. Even just having my name on their records now feels that I somehow condone their bigoted behaviour. I suspect a resignation email will be produced over the weekend. How many

1 Cor 14:28 "If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church...." I assume that the TBM parents are holding to this precious scripture and are interpreting their baby's pure adamic language. Perhaps you can ask for a transcript of the inte

With parents as controlling, self-righteous and non-forgiving as that is it any wonder the older daughter decided it was time to take off and live her own life? And what are the bets that her unpardonable heinous sin is nothing other than simply opting not to believe in the whole LDS inc fairytale any more. Disgusting propaganda from a self-serving organisation that cares only about the money.

Watched it two nights ago with my 10 year old. Great movie. The most poignant exchange for me: Mike Michaelson: Christof, let me ask you, why do you think that Truman has never come close to discovering the true nature of his world until now? Christof: We accept the reality of the world with which we're presented. It's as simple as that.

Son reported one time he had to relieve himself and it took longer than expected. Leader stood outside the whole time and kept asking if he was ok. I know what my son would have liked to say but he bit his tongue. He found the level of control and the guys walking around with ear-pieces closely monitoring everything completely creepy. Needless to say that he has even less desire to attend regular

Non-active 16 year old wanted to attend FSY (For the Strength of Youth - formerly EFY) to be with his friends. He had a good time socially but hated the lessons, firesides and OTT 'heartsell'. He also reported back that the rules have become even more draconian than they were two years previously. - Now no one can be left on their own and are hence escorted to the toilet by leaders, who then w

I know a 16 year old that was exe'd in the 1980's for violent conduct (got into a couple of fights but nothing too serious...no one was hospitalised and no criminal charges). He never came back to church even when an Apostle wrote to him a few years ago, apologising for the Bishop's ridiculous actions and inviting him back.

Exactly. It has indeed been confirmed that recipients of the SA have the power to save their posterity. So even less active children of recipients will be saved regardless of their own free will. Bednar knows this too, so rather spiteful of him to dampen the fragile hopes of so many members, while secretly knowing he and inner circle associates are completely immune.

Lazy morning then 5k run, lunch at favourite Indian restaurant, couple of hours at amazing museum where I saw fragments of an actual Book of the Dead Egyptian papyri and then will probably watch a movie later. Certainly beats spending half a day in church.

Good quote: "Sadly, the Mormon faith has become a place that incentivizes the survival of the least fit. Since strict obedience is demanded and harshly enforced, only the least talented, least articulate, least nuanced thinkers, least likely to take a stand against abuse, and the least courageous people thrive in the Church today"

After reading the following apologetic article that tries to explain Joseph Smith's polygamy, I came up with a few questions. First the link to the article: http://ldsmag.com/avoiding-testimony-casualties-over-plural-marriage/ And a quote from it: "Smith never referred to the relationships he entered into or authorized as “marriages.” Those who participated in plural marriage

Not meaning to brag but I was very fortunate to attend one of the top universities in the world and the single thing that has stuck with me far more than the actual stuff I learnt was the emphasis on developing individual thought and being analytical. Students who would go into a one-one tutorial with a professor and would blindly agree with everything they've read that week, even if from reno

It's very 'Monson' - i.e. uninteresting and just a bit meh. Contrast with the current pope who is a real leader, inspirational and a change agent. Bruce R Mc must be turning in his grave.

It must be the actual value of the metal plates themselves that made them so special. JS clearly didn't have a problem with the 'actual Egyptian writing of Abraham' being on show..... in fact they were publicly exhibited, for a fee of course. I guess 'metal plates of Mormon' beats 'papyri of Abraham' in the sacredness stakes.

Some members from other parts of the UK have grumbled about the huge amount of money that had been spent on a couple of large refurbishments at the flagship Hyde Park chapel in recent years. I believe the last one was aligned with the 2012 Olympics.... because they had a number of VIPs visiting. As per usual, TSCC is ok to spend money when it comes to trying to impress the VIPs......whilst ma

I was truly embarrassed to once observe a group of Mormon men in their 20's and 30's get completely over excited about a very simple kid's chocolate-based snack that wasn't even that great. It was honestly like watching a bunch of hyper children waking up on Christmas morning. It was a very particularly Mormon thing to do and just showed the infantile attitude of some. It reminded me of how an
