To anyone who is in favor of destroying Mormon books, I would ask How would you feel about the morality of Mormon missionaries going to libraries and destroying books critical of Mormonism?

I have the (non-black) first edition, listed there at $150, but It's far too valuable a resource showing Mormon doctrinal stupidity for me to part with it. I think it is a mistake to burn Mormon books or scriptures. How else can one back up claims against them? Any lawyer knows that the most powerful evidence against a witness is the witness' own words.

The changes, even in doctrine, are amazing when they are listed since 1830. See my review of Charles Harrell's book "This Is My Doctrine" at http://packham.n4m.org/doctrine.htm Although the author is LDS and teaches at BYU, his book is neither pro or con.

A possible damper on a Mormon girl's enthusiasm to hold out for and insist on an RM mate might be the fact that 40% of missionaries eventually leave the church. There's no guarantee.

When I was an elder and very devout many years ago, there were very few temples, and most of them were in Utah, You only got a recommend when you had to attend someone's wedding, if you didn't live close to a temple. The recommend was a 3-part carbon, 8½ x 5½ and was for a specific temple. Its ONLY use was to get you into that temple. It was not, as it is today, a membership card or certificat

There are several problems with the Mormon insistence that the words must be exactly right: - There are THREE versions of supposedly valid baptismal words in Mormon scriptures: 1. D&C 20:73 has "Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ..." This is the only version sanctioned now by the church. 2. 3 Nephi 11:25 (Christ's instructions to the Nephites) is "Having authorit

Yes, it happened to me. When I left Mormon Utah and Idaho (where I had grown up) to do my graduate studies I considered myself to be an unofficial missionary for Mormonism. When I approached fellow students and tried to convert them I discovered that faithful Protestants and Catholics knew more about Mormonism than I did. It was all lies, of course, which I had to check in order to set them s

When I started my freshman year at the Y in the fall of 1950, we all had to take two standardized tests. One was the MMPI test for personality traits. The large reading room in the Heber J. Grant Library was filled with us new students. As we pondered over the written questions, proctors moved around the room ready to help. There was one question that puzzled me: "Do you ever hear voices whe

I visited Nauvoo years ago before they rebuilt the temple, and there was still rubble from the old temple lying around. So I picked up a piece as a souvenir.

I remember vividly the last time I was in a Mormon sacrament meeting about 1996. I was visiting my parents in the town where I grew up, and it was I think Fathers Day, so I went to church with my dad. After several hymns, Dad asked me, "How does it feel, singing the old hymns?" I answered that the hymnal had changed so much that I didn't recognize any of them, and I had been very active

Other problems that no one has mentioned (sfaik): The name "Lucifer" is Latin, which of course was never used when there was no Latin language. Thus no one before Roman times could have had that name. The same with "Jesus" (a Greek version of a Hebrew name - also languages not existent at the time of the "war") The war apparently ended, so the number of souls

Many people do not know (and I just recently learned), the idea of binding "plates" or sheets of any material into a book was completely unknown to anyone in the world until about the first century CE, and only in Europe. Look up "codex" in any reference work. ("Codex" is the technical term for doing that.) The preferred (and ONLY) method of recording long texts unt

Organizations with top-down authority are frequent. Monarchies, dictatorships... Germany under Hitler operated on the "Fuehrerprinzip" ('the principle of the Leader'): that is, everyone is subject and must obey the leader over them, and that leader must in turn obey his leader, in an authority pyramid with the single "supreme" leader at the top. IIRC, the Nazis admired M

"seal," "sealing" Mormons have used it to mean "bind," "connect" - The American Heritage Dictionary acknowledges that the Mormons have given this word a special (and otherwise unknown) meaning. "evangelists" means "patriarchs" Joseph Smith said that "golgotha" meant a "place of burial" He also said that "

One of the most well-known and beloved old Mormon hymns that comforted the Saints as they trekked to Zion is "Come, come Ye Saints," where each verse ends with the phrase "All is well, all is well!" But the Book of Mormon specifically condemns anyone saying that all is well in Zion: 2 Nephi 28:21,25 - "Woe be unto him that crieth: All is well!" For more contrad

If you combine Mormon doctrines on "authority" with the D&C 121:37ff teaching that the priesthood authority will be withdrawn if improperly used, the Mormon cannot come up with an explanation - see http://packham.n4m.org/authority.htm

There are about a dozen questions in my article "How to Stump a Mormon" at http://packham.n4m.org/stump.htm More are at "Unasked questions about Mormonism" http://packham.n4m.org/unasked.htm Another good one: JS taught in "Teachings of the Prophet JS" that one way to identify a false revelation is that it contradicts a previous revelation. I can think of

I follow their instructions, but the last step is always to send them a "code" that they send me
